MgO-supported manganese carbonyl complexes were prepared by chemical vapor deposition of Mn(CO)5CH3 on partially dehydroxylated, high-area MgO powder. X-ray absorption spectra identify the resultant surface species, on average, as Mn(CO)4(Os)2 (where the two oxygen ligands are part of the MgO surface), and infrared spectra show that the chemisorption results from the reaction of Mn(CO)5CH3 with OH groups of the MgO surface. Electron paramagnetic resonance and X-ray absorption near edge data indicate that the manganese was in a positive oxidation state other than +2, but the value is not determined, and the IR spectra indicate the presence of a mixture of manganese carbonyls. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectra determine the average Mn-CO bond distance to be 1.87 Å and the average Mn-O bond distance to be 2.12 Å. The surface complex was found to be stable in O2 at room temperature.

The concept of inert matrix fuel (IMF) has been proposed to utilize the energetic value of Pu and transmute minor actinides in nuclear reactors. In order to offset the initial reactivity of nuclear fuel, gadolinium (Gd) is employed as a burnable poison, owing to its high neutron absorption cross-section. To gain insights into the radiation stability and influence of grain boundaries on irradiation behaviour, 5 mol% Gd-doped ceria samples, sintered at varying temperatures, were subjected to irradiation using 400 Kr ions.

We report a green approach to prepare carbon dots (CDs) with fresh tomatoes as carbon sources and amino acids as dopants (ACDs) by a microwave assisted method. The synthesised CDs were analysed by UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, high resolution transmission electron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photo electron spectroscopy. An MTT assay was used to evaluate the cytotoxicity of CDs toward L929 cells and found that CDs exhibit low cytotoxicity.

Orbital structures are strongly correlated with catalytic performance, whereas their regulation strategy is still in pursuit. Herein, the Fe 3 and O 2 orbital hybridization was optimized by controlling the content of amorphous NiFe(OH) (a-NiFe(OH)), which was grown in situ on crystalline NiFeO (c-NiFeO) using an ultrasonic reduction method. The results of electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and X-ray absorption spectra (XAS) revealed that the Fe-O orbital hybridization in a-NiFe(OH) is effectively strengthened by jointing with the adjacent oxygen (O) in c-NiFeO, which is further confirmed by the higher antibonding orbital energies based on density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

The corrugated <110> oriented layered metal halide perovskites (MHP) are gaining increased attention for a variety of properties including intrinsic white light emission. One prototypical candidate is 1-(3-aminopropyl)imidazole lead bromide, which was reported to crystallize as the <110> oriented perovskite (API)PbBr [API = 1-(3-aminopropyl)imidazole]. This work shows that under similar reaction conditions, the same components can instead form (API)PbBr, which has a "perovskitoid" structure.

The decrease in the slope efficiency caused by irradiation decays exponentially with an increase in the X-ray radiation doses, and the radiation-induced gain variation (RIGV) showed a linear decay trend with increasing irradiation doses. The slope efficiency of Yb-doped LMA PCF, which significantly degraded from 71.
