Parametric phase locking in an electron rf oscillator.

We propose a way to achieve phase locking of output rf radiation produced by an oscillator driven by a cw electron beam. The locking mechanism is provided by fast periodic modulation of electromagnetic properties of the operating cavity. Ohmic loss and/or the eigenmode frequency are modulated using induced photoconductivity of a semiconductor insert, as affected by a laser with a pulse repetition rate equal to twice the rf frequency.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive impairments in episodic and spatial memory, as well as circuit and network-level dysfunction. While functional impairments in medial entorhinal cortex (MEC) and hippocampus (HPC) have been observed in patients and rodent models of AD, it remains unclear how communication between these regions breaks down in disease, and what specific physiological changes are associated with the onset of memory impairment. We used silicon probes to simultaneously record neural activity in MEC and hippocampus before or after the onset of spatial memory impairment in the 3xTg mouse model of AD pathology.

A Hz level narrow linewidth all-optical microwave oscillator based on the torsional radial acoustic modes (TR) of a single-mode fiber (SMF) is proposed and validated. The all-optical microwave oscillator consists of a 20 km SMF main ring cavity and a 5 km SMF sub ring cavity. The main ring cavity provides forward stimulated Brillouin scattering gain and utilizes a nonlinear polarization rotation effect to achieve TR mode locking.

Background: While the effects of sleep deprivation on cognitive function are well-documented, its impact on high-intensity endurance performance and underlying neural mechanisms remains underexplored, especially in the context of search and rescue operations where both physical and mental performance are essential. This study examines the neurophysiological basis of sleep deprivation on high-intensity endurance using electroencephalography (EEG). In this crossover study, twenty firefighters were subjected to both sleep deprivation (SD) and normal sleep conditions, with each participant performing endurance treadmill exercise the following morning after each condition.
