In order to strengthen the activity of biofilm on the carrier surface, the tourmpaline on polyurethane (TPU) carrier was prepared using waterborne polyurethane as medium. The physical properties of TPU carrier were characterized by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and water absorbency, and its effect on biofilm biomass and nitrifying ability was studied. The results showed that the tourmaline loading amount of TPU carrier can be affected by waterborne polyurethane. Tourmaline can optimize the number of polar groups of the TPU carrier and the pH of the nitrification condition. The amount of nitrobacteria and nitrate bacteria irreversibly adsorbed on the TPU carrier was increased by 74.82% and 71.89% , respectively. Correspondingly, the removing rate of NH+4 -N and NO-2 -N has risen by 8.12% and 9.08%, respectively, compared to the control without carrier. The TPU carrier was indicated to promote the nitrification.

The combination of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance and flame-retardant property is essential for applications in the field of electronics and electrics. To date, there have been few successful cases in achieving such portfolios, due to the different mechanisms and even mutual exclusivity of these two attributes. Herein, an ammonium polyphosphate@chitosan@carbon nanotube (APP@CS@MWCNT) core-multishell hybrid was synthesized by microencapsulation technology.

Transdermal insulin delivery is an alternative route to deliver insulin through the body skin with the challenges to overcome the low drug skin permeability and high molecular weight. Polyaniline doped with poly(4-styrenesulfonic acid) (PANI:PSS), a conductive polymer with the high electrical conductivity, was synthesized and utilized as a drug carrier to improve the drug delivery capability from a porous thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) matrix. The insulin was electrostatically attached to PANI:PSS based on the ion exchange between insulin and PSS.

Background: The production of tissue-engineered vascular graft (TEVG) usually involves a prolonged bioreactor cultivation period of up to several weeks to achieve maturation of extracellular matrix and sufficient mechanical strength. Therefore, we aimed to substantially shorten this conditioning time by combining a TEVG textile scaffold with a recently developed copolymer reinforced fibrin gel as a cell carrier. We further implemented our grafts with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents to allow the in-vitro monitoring of the TEVG's remodeling process.

Microfluidics provides enabling platforms for various cell culture, drug testing and synthesis of drug carriers using chip-based microsystems. In this study, we present a novel integrated whole-thermoplastic microfluidic chip to provide a platform for on-chip cell culture at static and dynamic conditions. The whole chip was made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) using high precision micromilling and laser micromachining, assembled by thermal fusion bonding.

Microcellular injection molding technology (MuCell) using supercritical fluid (SCF) as a foaming agent offers many advantages, such as material and energy savings, low cycle time, cost-effectiveness, and the dimensional stability of products. MuCell has attracted great attention for applications in the automotive, packaging, sporting goods, and electrical parts industries. In view of the environmental issues, the shoe industry, particularly for midsole parts, is also seriously considering using physical foaming to replace the chemical foaming process.
