Published: January 2011

The DIVA model of speech production provides a computationally and neuroanatomically explicit account of the network of brain regions involved in speech acquisition and production. An overview of the model is provided along with descriptions of the computations performed in the different brain regions represented in the model. The latest version of the model, which contains a new right-lateralized in ventral premotor cortex, will be described, and experimental results that motivated this new model component will be discussed. Application of the model to the study and treatment of communication disorders will also be briefly described.

Validation framework for digital measures.

Front Toxicol

January 2025

Digital In Vivo Alliance (DIVA), Redwood City, CA, United States.

The adoption of digital measures in pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) presents an opportunity to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of discovering and developing new therapeutics. For clinical measures, the Digital Medicine Society's (DiMe) V3 Framework is a comprehensive validation framework that encompasses verification, analytical validation, and clinical validation. This manuscript describes collaborative efforts to adapt this framework to ensure the reliability and relevance of digital measures for a preclinical context.

Aims/hypothesis: The potential impact of childhood bereavement-a severe psychological stressor-on childhood type 1 diabetes development remains unclear. Here, we aimed to bridge this knowledge gap and assess whether bereavement characteristics influenced any impact.

Methods: We conducted a register-based cohort study encompassing 3,598,159 children born in Sweden between 1987 and 2020.

Background: Anti-freeze Glycoproteins (AFGPs) were described to preserve biological materials and protect them from different stresses.

Aims: The effects of a synthetic anti-freeze glycoprotein-based compound, TFC-1326, on human skin quality and its biological actions were studied.

Methods: The effects of various concentrations of TFC-1326 on the biology of human preadipocytes, differentiated in the proinflammatory microenvironment, and on human fibroblasts grown in coculture with human mature adipocytes or monocultured in stress conditions were investigated in, in vitro studies.

Gene therapy in Aβ-induced cell and mouse models of Alzheimer's disease through compensating defective mitochondrial complex I function.

J Transl Med

August 2024

Department of Internal Neurology, Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, 95 Yongan Road, Xicheng District, Beijing, 100050, China.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurogenerative disorder without effective treatments. Defects in mitochondrial complex I are thought to contribute to AD pathogenesis. The aim of this study is to explore whether a novel gene therapy transducing yeast complex I gene NDI1 can be used to treat AD with severely reduced complex I function in cell and animal models.

Objectives: Although it is the most performed invasive procedure, peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) insertion in children can be difficult. The primary objective of the study was to identify the factors associated with difficult intravenous access (DIVA) in the paediatric ED, including patient, proceduralist and situational factors.

Methods: This was a single-centre prospective observational cohort study conducted over 28 consecutive days.
