Results of hormone therapy as first-line treatment for high-risk prostate cancer.

Purpose Of Review: To assess the current place for androgen deprivation therapy as single modality in locally advanced nonmetastatic situations.

Recent Findings: One standard of care for node negative locally advanced disease is a combination of external beam with androgen deprivation treatment. Several recent randomized trials have confirmed the key role of a local treatment combined to a systemic one in terms of specific and overall survival. The specific morbidity of this combined modality appears to be minimal. Retrospective data also suggest that a local treatment should be considered in case of positive nodes. Finally, the real place of immediate single hormonal treatment has also been clarified. The limited survival benefit has to be balanced with the side-effects. Therefore, this single modality should be limited to the most aggressive situations when no local treatment is planned.

Summary: Single hormonal treatment for nonmetastatic advanced prostate cancer appears to be limited to the few patients unfit or unwilling for a local treatment and having a high prostate-specific antigen and a short prostate-specific antigen doubling time. In all other situations, it might represent a clear undertreatment.

Background: For radiotherapy of head and neck cancer (HNC) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a pivotal role due to its high soft tissue contrast. Moreover, it offers the potential to acquire functional information through diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) with the potential to personalize treatment. The aim of this study was to acquire repetitive DWI during the course of online adaptive radiotherapy on an 1.

Evaluation of Lyso-Gb1 as a biomarker for Gaucher disease treatment outcomes using data from the Gaucher Outcome Survey.

Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectious Diseases, University Hospital, Heinrich- Heine University, Düsseldorf, Germany.

Background: Patients with Gaucher disease (GD) require continual monitoring; however, lack of specific disease biomarkers was a significant challenge in the past. Glucosylsphingosine (lyso-Gb1) has been shown to be a reliable, key, specific, and sensitive biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment response in clinical studies of patients with GD. We evaluated the change in lyso-Gb1 concentration over time following enzyme replacement therapy in patients with confirmed GD using real-world data from the Gaucher Outcome Survey disease registry.

Background: The occurrence of periprosthetic femoral fractures (PFFs) in cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA) might be associated with the proximal femoral morphology and the pelvis. PFFs in short stem THA are associated with an increased Canal Flare Index. PFFs in straight stem THA show a decreased Canal Flare Index.

Background: Glioblastoma is the commonest malignant brain tumor and has a very poor prognosis. Reduced expression of the MGMT gene (10q26.3), influenced primarily by the methylation of two differentially methylated regions (DMR1 and DMR2), is associated with a good response to temozolomide treatment.

Mechanisms and new advances in the efficacy of plant active ingredients in tendon-bone healing.

J Orthop Surg Res

The tendon-bone interface, known as the tenosynovial union or attachment, can be easily damaged by excessive exercise or trauma. Tendon-bone healing is a significant research topic in orthopedics, encompassing various aspects of sports injuries and postoperative recovery. Surgery is the most common treatment; however, it has limited efficacy in promoting tendon-bone healing and carries a risk of postoperative recurrence, necessitating the search for more effective treatments.
