Differentiating blood, lymph, and primo vessels by residual time characteristic of fluorescent nanoparticles in a tumor model.

Published: May 2013

Fluorescent nanoparticles (FNPs) which were injected into a tumor tissue flowed out through the blood and lymph vessels. The FNPs in blood vessels remained only in the order for few minutes while those in lymph vessels remained for a long time disappearing completely in 25 hours. We found a primo vessel inside a lymph vessel near a blood vessel, and FNPs remained in the primo vessel for longer than 25 hours. In addition, we examined in detail the residual time characteristics of lymph vessels because it could be useful in a future study of fluid dynamical comparison of the three conduits. These residual time characteristics of FNPs in the three kinds of vessels may have implications for the dynamics of nanoparticle drugs for cancer chemotherapy.

Purpose: Angioplasty of lower extremity arteries with calcification may result in flow-limiting dissection requiring bail-out stenting with unfavorable long-term outcomes. Vessel preparation prior to angioplasty may improve immediate results of the angioplasty and long-term patency. This prospective study assessed the 12-month outcomes of patients who underwent novel vessel preparation catheter, the FLEX Vessel Prep™ System (FLEX VP), prior to drug-coated balloon angioplasty (DCB-PTA).

Objectives: To investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of infants and young children with basal ganglia infarction after minor head trauma (BGIMHT).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data and follow-up results of children aged 28 days to 3 years with BGIMHT who were hospitalized at Children's Hospital of Soochow University from January 2011 to January 2022.

Results: A total of 45 cases of BGIMHT were included, with the most common symptom being limb movement disorders (96%, 43/45), followed by facioplegia (56%, 25/45).

Zwitterionic Poly(ethylene glycol) Nanoparticles Minimize Protein Adsorption and Immunogenicity for Improved Biological Fate.

We report the assembly of poly(ethylene glycol) nanoparticles (PEG NPs) and optimize their surface chemistry to minimize the formation of protein coronas and immunogenicity for improved biodistribution. PEG NPs cross-linked with disulfide bonds are synthesized utilizing zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 NPs as the templates, which are subsequently modified with PEG molecules with different end groups (carboxyl, methoxy, or amino) to vary the surface chemistry. Among the modifications, the amino and residual carboxyl groups form a pair of zwitterionic structures on the surface of PEG NPs, which minimize the adsorption of proteins (e.

Seawater intrusion and human activities have significantly impacted coastal groundwater quality in many regions worldwide. This study systematically assessed groundwater chemistry, its suitability for drinking and irrigation (sample size, n = 3034), and exposure risks (n = 2863) across three key sub-regions of the Bohai Sea area: Bohai Bay, Liaodong Bay, and Laizhou Bay. Significant seasonal variations observed in groundwater chemistry at different depths in Bohai Bay region, with severe contamination from salinity-alkalinity and nitrogen-fluoride.

Background: Intraoperative ultrasound-guided breast-conserving surgery guarantees real-time direct visualization of tumor and resection margins. We compared surgical, oncologic, and cosmetic outcomes between intraoperative ultrasound-guided breast-conserving surgery and traditional (palpation- or wire-guided) surgery across all breast cancer lesion types.

Methods: This prospective observational cohort study was conducted at the Veneto Institute of Oncology between January 2021 and October 2022.
