The ability of human and rabbit ocular tissues to degrade prostaglandins (PGs) was compared by following the metabolic fate of PGF2 alpha. No metabolism was observed in vitro after 5.0 hr incubation with human cornea, iris/ciliary body, or sclera, as indicated by the absence of a decrease in [3H]-PGF2 alpha concentration or the appearance of [3H]-PGF2 alpha metabolites with time. Similarly, no metabolism of PGF2 alpha was observed in vitro after 5.0 hr incubation with these various rabbit ocular tissues or iris/ciliary body homogenate, or in vivo after topical application to rabbit eyes. The only detectable radioactive peak corresponded to PGF2 alpha. Therefore, it is concluded that both human and rabbit ocular tissues lack the enzymes that typically deactivate prostaglandins by 15-OH dehydrogenation, omega-oxidation, and beta-oxidation. In contrast to ocular metabolism, PGF2 alpha was metabolized in the presence of rabbit lung homogenate: [3H]-PGF2 alpha decreased with the simultaneous formation of a metabolite in a time-dependent manner. This metabolic transformation in lung homogenate was NADP+ dependent, and the radioactive metabolic peak had the same retention time as 13,14-dihydro-15-keto-PGF2 alpha.

Purpose: The aim of the present study is to examine the demographic data and clinical features of ocular surface injuries due to thermal burns and to evaluate LSCD in the light of global consensus.
Methods: Thirty-three eyes of 20 cases with ocular surface injury due to thermal burn who attended to the clinic between 2012 and 2023 were included in the study. LSCD severity was staged according to the global consensus which was published in 2019.

Background/aims: To identify the risk factors for neuropathic corneal pain (NCP) following corneal refractive surgery and to report its clinical manifestations, imaging and proteomic characteristics.
Methods: This 1 year prospective cohort study included 100 eyes that underwent small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) or laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). Ocular surface assessments, in-vivo confocal microscopy scans, tear neuromediators and proteomics analyses were performed.

Due to its anatomical and physiological similarities to the human eye, the porcine eye serves as a robust model for biomedical research and ocular toxicity assessment. An air/liquid corneal culture system using porcine eyes was developed, and ex vivo epithelial wound healing was utilized as a critical parameter for these studies. Fresh pig corneas were processed for organ culture, with or without epithelial wounding.

Idiopathic upper eyelid retraction is a rare ocular symptom characterized by abnormal upward displacement of the upper eyelid, often without any identifiable systemic disease. This condition not only affects the patient's appearance but may also have a certain impact on their daily life and mental health. We report a case of adult idiopathic unilateral upper eyelid retraction, and based on the patient's specific condition, we used graded anterior plate blepharoplasty for treatment.

Background: Thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) is an autoimmune response to inflammation of the thyroid and orbital tissue. This research evaluated the efficacy of 99Tcm-DTPA orbital SPECT/CT combined with thyroid function test in radioactive iodine I-131 (RAI) treatment of TAO-hyperthyroidism.
Methods: We retrospectively studied clinical activity score (CAS), blood thyrotropine (TSH), free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), thickness of extra-ocular muscle (EOM), and uptake rate (UR) of 99Tcm-DTPA orbital SPECT/CT of 43 patients after 6 months of treatment with 20 mCi RAI.
