S1 is the largest ribosomal protein, and is vitally important for the cell. S1 is also a subunit of Qβ replicase, the RNA-directed RNA polymerase of bacteriophage Qβ. In both protein and RNA syntheses, S1 is commonly believed to bind to a template RNA at the initiation step, and not to be involved in later events. Here, we show that in Qβ replicase-mediated RNA synthesis, S1 functions at the termination step by promoting release of the product strand in a single-stranded form. This function is fulfilled by the N-terminal fragment comprising the first two S1 domains. The results suggest that S1 might also have a role other than mRNA binding in the ribosome.

Using next-generation sequencing data, the complete mitogenomes of six species from the genus were assembled. This study explores the mitochondrial genomes of species, among them the five species from the complex, comparing them with each other and with other species from Dolichoderinae subfamily to understand their evolutionary relationships and evolution. mitochondrial genomes contain the typical set of 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNAs, and the A + T-rich control region.

DDX21, a member of the DEAD-box RNA helicase family, plays a pivotal role in various aspects of RNA metabolism, including ribosomal RNA (rRNA) processing, transcription, and translation. Its diverse functions in cancer progression and viral infections have attracted considerable attention. DDX21 exerts a pivotal function through ribosomal DNA (rDNA) transcription and rRNA processing.

The unique fuel characteristics of butanol and the possibility of its microbial production make it one of the most desirable environmentally friendly substitutes for petroleum fuels. However, the highly toxic nature of 1-butanol to the bacterial strains makes it unprofitable for commercial production. By comparison, 2-butanol has similar fuel qualities, and despite the difficulties in its microbial synthesis, it holds promise because it may be less toxic.

We assembled and annotated the complete mitochondrial genomes of (hoary fox), (bush dog), (white-lipped peccary), and (Brazilian free-tailed bat). The mitogenomes exhibited typical vertebrate structures, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and a D-loop region. Phylogenetic reconstruction using the 13 protein-coding genes revealed robust relationships among species within Carnivora, Chiroptera, and Artiodactyla, corroborating previous studies.
