Langerhan cell histiocytosis, formerly known as histiocytosis X, traditionally denotes a group of diseases that stem from proliferative reticuloendothelial disturbances. The etiology and pathogenesis of the disease remain debatable. In this paper we report a case of Langerhan cell histiocytosis in a 3 1/2 -year-old child who reported to the department of oral pathology with gingival enlargements. The radiological features and histopathological features are also discussed.

Pancreatic islet transplantation is a crucial treatment for managing type 1 diabetes (T1D) in clinical settings. However, the limited availability of human cadaveric islet donors and the need for ongoing administration of immunosuppressive agents post-transplantation hinder the widespread use of this treatment. Stem cell-derived islet organoids have emerged as an effective alternative to primary human islets.

Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) biases Langerhans cell (LC) Ag presentation to CD4 T cells towards Th17-type immunity through actions on endothelial cells (ECs). We now report further evidence that IL-6 signalling at responding T cells mediates this effect. This CGRP effect was absent with ECs from IL-6 KO mice.

Intermittent fasting (IF) is a nutritional lifestyle intervention with broad metabolic benefits, but whether the impact of IF depends on the individual's age is unclear. Here, we investigated the effects of IF on systemic metabolism and β cell function in old, middle-aged, and young mice. Short-term IF improves glucose homeostasis across all age groups without altering islet function and morphology.

Aim: Somatostatin from pancreatic δ-cells is a paracrine regulator of insulin and glucagon secretion, but the release kinetics and whether secretion is altered in diabetes is unclear. This study aimed to improve understanding of somatostatin secretion by developing a tool for real-time detection of somatostatin release from individual pancreatic islets.
Methods: Reporter cells responding to somatostatin with cytoplasmic Ca concentration ([Ca]) changes were generated by co-expressing somatostatin receptor SSTR2, the G-protein Gα15 and a fluorescent Ca sensor in HeLa cells.

Adult human skin contains nearly twice as many T cells as the peripheral blood, which include tissue-resident memory T cells. However, the precise mechanisms maintaining tissue-resident memory T cells in the healthy skin remain unclear. Using normal human skin samples, we find that Langerhans cells (LCs) contact T cells in the epidermis of the elderly.
