In this work, hydrogen production from glycerol by aqueous phase reforming (APR) is studied by using nanosize Ni-Cu catalysts supported on LaAlO3 perovskite in order to investigate the effects of the copper loading amount and the reaction conditions. Nanosize copper-promoted nickel-based catalysts were prepared by the precipitation method. The structure of the nanosize catalysts is characterized by XRD analysis. The surface area, morphology, dispersion and reducibility of the nanosize catalysts is examined by BET, TEM and TPR, respectively. It was found that 15Ni-5Cu/LaAlO3 catalyst showed the highest glycerol conversion and hydrogen selectivity. The highest activity found in the 15Ni-5Cu/LaAlO3 was attributed to it having the proper copper loading amount. It also has the lowest metal crystal size and the highest surface area, which have an effect on the catalytic activity and hydrogen selectivity. The 15Ni-5Cu/LaAlO3 catalyst showed the best performance for hydrogen production at a reaction temperature of 250 degrees C, a reaction pressure of 20 bar and a feed rate of 5 ml/h.

Bicontinuous particle-stabilized emulsions (bijels) are unique soft materials that combine the bulk properties of two immiscible fluids into a single interconnected structure. This structure is achieved through the formation of two interwoven fluid networks, stabilized by an interfacial layer of colloidal particles. Bijels with submicron-scale domain networks can be synthesized solvent transfer-induced phase separation (STrIPS).

In this work, selenium (IV) ions were adsorbed from aqueous solutions by the strongly basic anion exchange resin Amberlite IRA-400. The morphology of the resin before and after Se(IV) sorption was investigated using different techniques such as energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). To determine the ideal sorption conditions, a batch approach was used to examine the variables affecting Se(IV) sorption performance, including pH, shaking time, adsorbent dosage, initial metal ion concentration, and temperature.

Airborne particulate matter (PM) in urban environments poses significant health risks by penetrating the respiratory system, with concern over lung-deposited surface area (LDSA) as an indicator of particle exposure. This study aimed to investigate the diurnal trends and sources of LDSA, particle number concentration (PNC), elemental carbon (EC), and organic carbon (OC) concentrations in Los Angeles across different seasons to provide a comprehensive understanding of the contributions from primary and secondary sources of ultrafine particles (UFPs). Hourly measurements of PNC and LDSA were conducted using the DiSCmini and Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS), while OC and EC concentrations were measured using the Sunset Lab EC/OC Monitor.

For the development of new functional materials for various applications, such as drug or gene delivery and environmental remediation, the relationship between function and morphology has been considered an important aspect for controlling affinity to the targets. However, there are only a few reports on this relationship because the molecular strategy for the precise control of vesicle shape has been restricted. Herein, we report the photocontrol of vesicle shape using azobenzene-containing amphiphilic switches.
