ZIF-7 membrane has been prepared on the outer surface of alumina hollow fibers by the solvothermal synthesis. The synthesis conditions, including reaction temperature, time, and solution concentration, are investigated. At the reaction temperature of 100 degrees C for 8 h, microsized ZIF-7 crystals are grown on the outer surface of the hollow fibers. A continuous and dense ZIF-7 membrane with a thickness of about 5 microm is obtained after twice crystallization at 100 degrees C for 8 h. The gas separation test indicates the as-prepared ZIF-7 membranes have intercrystalline defects as the H2/N2 ideal selectivity is less than the Knudsen diffusion. After post-modification with beta-cyclodextrin aqueous solution, the micropore defects of ZIF-7 membrane is significantly reduced and the membrane has H2/N2 ideal selectivity of 3.9. The gas permeances for H2 and N2 are almost constant from room temperature to 150 degrees C for the ZIF-7 hollow fiber membranes before and after beta-cyclodextrin modification.

It is an important initiative to reduce the building energy consumption using energy recovering ventilation (ERV) systems. The application of ERV systems is hindered by the low CO barrier performance of commercial total heat exchange membranes (THEMs) that lead to unsatisfactory indoor air refreshing rate, and there is an urgent need for THEMs that have improved CO barrier properties and effective energy recovery efficiencies. Here, we report the formation of novel ZIF/PA TFN THEMs based on ZIF-7-X nanoparticles (NPs) with "core-shell" structures and tunable particle sizes, formed from benzimidazole (BIM) ligands and BIM substituted by -NH, -CH, -CH, and -CH functional groups.

Mixed-linker zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) with the sodalite () topology type and based on ZIF-7 have been prepared by direct synthesis from the mixtures of benzimidazole (BzIm) and 4,5-dichloroimidazole (dcIm). Incorporation of dcIm into the ZIF-7 structure gives ZIF-7/COK-17 hybrids with rhombohedral symmetry that do not show the "open-to-closed form" structural transition upon solvent removal exhibited by ZIF-7. They show Type I isotherms for low molecular weight gases and high affinity for CO even at low partial pressures.

In this study, we mixed the zeolitic imidazolate framework-7 (ZIF-7) with poly(ether-b-amide) 2533 (Pebax-2533) and used it as a selective layer for a composite membrane. We prepared the composite membrane's substrate using polysulfone (PSf), adjusted its pore size using polyethylene glycol (PEG), and applied polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) to the gutter layer and the coating layer. Then, we investigated the membrane's properties of gases by penetrating a single gas (N, CO) into the membrane.

Formaldehyde, a probable carcinogen, is a ubiquitous indoor pollutant, but its highly selective detection has been a long-standing challenge. Herein, a chemiresistive sensor that can detect ppb-level formaldehyde in an exclusive manner at room temperature is designed. The TiO sensor exhibits under UV illumination highly selective detection of formaldehyde and ethanol with negligible cross-responses to other indoor pollutants.

Development of efficient absorbent materials for oil spillage clean-up and environmental pollution remediation is highly desired but remains a challenge. In this work, superhydrophobic/superoleophilic polysulfone based ZIF-7 composite (SPZ) foams were fabricated via chemical modification of polysulfone and integrating with hydrophobic coin-shaped ZIF-7 particles. The synergistic approaches provided the SPZ foams with high porosity, low density and superhydrophobic/superoleophilic features (θ=162.
