Introduction: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the miniplate application sites in the maxilla and the applied force vector changes during skeletally supported facemask application in adolescent patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP) using finite element model (FEM) analysis.
Methods: A FEM was obtained from a cone-beam computed tomography image of a 12-year-old female patient with UCLP. Miniplates were placed on 3 different sites of the maxilla; 500 g of advancement force was applied bilaterally, parallel (0°), and downward (-30°) to the occlusal plane.

: Orthognathic surgery is used to restore a correct anatomical and functional relationship between the jaws, with postoperative nasal septal deviation (NSD) being a common complication of Le Fort I osteotomy (LF-IO). The aim of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of NSD after LF-IO and to identify possible risk factors. : Pre- and postoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans from 2018 to 2023 of 102 patients after LF-IO were analyzed.

High-velocity lateral impacts to the nose sometimes cause nasal buckle-out fractures with a trapdoor buckle-out segment displaced outwards. Prolonged immobilization of a reduced buckle-out segment at risk for outward redisplacement remains challenging. Here we introduce a novel method of intranasal outer cortex splinting with a Kirshner (K)-wire to reinforce the reduced state and prevent outward re-displacement of the buckle-out segment.

A new design named ATOZ (applicable from A to Z) was recently introduced to expand the scope of treatment in early permanent dentition.
