Photoirradiation of a hexadecameric supramolecular G-quadruplex leads to a diastereoselective [2 + 2] cyclodimerization of half of its constituent subunits, which in turn shifts the equilibrium toward the formation of a precise heteromeric octamer.

Certain proteins and synthetic covalent polymers experience aqueous phase transitions, driving functional self-assembly. Herein, we unveil the ability of supramolecular polymers (SPs) formed by G4.Cu+ to undergo heating-induced unexpected aqueous phase transitions.

The Mpox virus (MPXV) has emerged as a formidable orthopoxvirus, posing an immense challenge to global public health. An understanding of the regulatory mechanisms of MPXV infection, replication and immune evasion will benefit the development of novel antiviral strategies. Despite the involvement of G-quadruplexes (G4s) in modulating the infection and replication processes of multiple viruses, their roles in the MPXV life cycle remain largely unknown.

Beyond the pivotal genetic roles of DNA, its duplex structures as chiral scaffolds interacting with metal complexes give rise to DNA hybrid catalysts for a set of aqueous-phase enantioselective reactions. Besides DNA duplex, DNA quadruplexes including G-quadruplex and i-motif show tunable structures with variable non-canonical base pairs. In this concept, based on the interaction between metal species and DNA, we classify the construction strategies of quadruplex DNA hybrid catalysts into supramolecular, covalent and coordinative modes.

The integration of biomolecules into supramolecular nanostructures forms the basis of the natural world. Naturally occurring liquid-liquid phase separation resulting in biomolecular condensates has inspired the formation of biomolecule-based smart materials with multi-dimensional applications. A non-covalent bio-condensation between biomass DNA and guanosine monophosphate (GMP) has been described, mimicking chromatin folding and creating a unique "all-nucleic" DNA-GMP condensates.
