To fulfill the requirements of the 2008/50 Directive, which allows member states and regional authorities to use a combination of measurement and modeling to monitor air pollution concentration, a key approach to be properly developed and tested is the data assimilation one. In this paper, with a focus on regional domains, a comparison between optimal interpolation and Ensemble Kalman Filter is shown, to stress pros and drawbacks of the two techniques. These approaches can be used to implement a more accurate monitoring of the long-term pollution trends on a geographical domain, through an optimal combination of all the available sources of data. The two approaches are formalized and applied for a regional domain located in Northern Italy, where the PM10 level which is often higher than EU standard limits is measured.

This paper proposes an Improved Spider Wasp Optimizer (ISWO) to address inaccuracies in calculating the population (N) during iterations of the SWO algorithm. By innovating the population iteration formula and integrating the advantages of Differential Evolution and the Crayfish Optimization Algorithm, along with introducing an opposition-based learning strategy, ISWO accelerates convergence. The adaptive parameters trade-off probability (TR) and crossover probability (Cr) are dynamically updated to balance the exploration and exploitation phases.

In this study, experiments were conducted on soil samples collected from depths of 0-15 cm, 15-30 cm, and 30-50 cm at the National Long-term Scientific Research Base for the Comprehensive Management of Rocky Desertification in the Wuling Mountains. The aim was to determine the physicochemical indexes and explore the nature and spatial heterogeneity of the soil of the planted mixed forests within the rocky desertification area of the Wuling Mountain. Various analytical methods were employed, including descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, analysis of variance, principal component analysis, spatial interpolation analysis, and kriging interpolation, to fit the optimal model of the semi-variance function of soil physicochemical properties and analyze the model's parameters.
