We present a mid-IR highly tunable optical polarization converter composed of asymmetric graphene nanocrosses. It can convert linearly polarized light to circularly and elliptically polarized light or exhibit a giant optical activity at different wavelengths. The transmitted wavelength and polarization states can also be dynamically tuned by varying the Fermi energy of graphene, without reoptimizing and refabricating the nanostructures. This offers a further step in developing a controllable polarization converter.

Piezoelectric materials are increasingly used in portable smart electronics and Internet of Things sensors. Among them, piezoelectric macro fiber composites (MFCs) have attracted much attention due to their architectural simplicity, scalability, and high-power density. However, most MFCs currently use toxic lead-based piezoelectric materials, hindering their applications for bio-friendly intelligent electronics.

This study presents a generalized design strategy for novel terahertz-wave polarization space-division multiplexing meta-devices, functioning as multi-polarization generators, modulators, and analyzers. It introduces the spin-decoupled phase control method by combining gradient phase design with circular polarization multiplexing techniques, enabling exceptional flexibility in controlling the polarization directions and spatial distributions of multiple output beams. The meta-device M-4D is significantly demonstrated as proof of concept, which converts an incident linearly polarized wave into four beams with distinct polarization angles.

Covalent organic nanotubes offer enhanced stability, robustness, and functionality, compared to their noncovalent counterparts. This study explores constructing polydiacetylene (PDA) nanotubes using a two-step process: self-assembly via noncovalent interactions followed by UV-induced polymerization of a diacetylene template. A promising building block consisting of a hydrogen-bonding headgroup, barbituric acid, linked to a linear diacetylene chain was prepared.

Melatonin stabilizes atherosclerotic plaques: an association that should be clinically exploited.

Atherosclerosis is the underlying factor in the premature death of millions of humans annually. The cause of death is often a result of the rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque followed by the discharge of the associated molecular debris into the vessel lumen which occludes the artery leading to ischemia of downstream tissue and to morbidity or mortality of the individual. This is most serious when it occurs in the heart (heart attack) or brain (stroke).

Lipids are indispensable components of living organisms and play pivotal roles in cell-membrane fluidity, energy provision, and neurotransmitter transmission and transport. Lipids can act as potential biomarkers of diseases given their abilities to indicate cell-growth status. For example, the lipid-metabolism processes of cancer cells are distinct from those of normal cells owing to their rapid proliferation and adaptation to ever-changing biological environments.
