The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of sarcolipin (SLN) on sarco(endo) plasmic reticulum Ca(2+)-ATPase (SERCA pump) energetics in vivo and resting skeletal muscle metabolic rate. Using SLN knockout (Sln(-/-)) mice we show that SLN ablation increases the transport stoichiometry of SERCA pumps (Ca(2+) uptake/Ca(2+)-ATPase activity) and decreases the relative contribution of SERCA pumps to resting oxygen consumption (VO2) in soleus without affecting soleus or whole body VO2. These data suggest that the lower energy requirements for Ca(2+) cycling in resting skeletal muscle of Sln(-/-) mice do not impact significantly either skeletal muscle or whole body metabolic rate.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) combined with periorbital triamcinolone acetonide injection in treating thyroid eye disease (TED) patients with active extraocular muscle but low CAS. The retrospective observational study was conducted. A total of 156 eligible patients were selected from the TED patient database of the Ophthalmology Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University.

This study aimed to investigate the role of myosteatosis, sarcopenia, and perioperative serum biomarkers as independent predictors of major complications within 180 days following radical cystectomy (RC) for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). We retrospectively analyzed of 127 MIBC patients who underwent RC between 2013 and 2023 at a single institution. Preoperative body composition was assessed using CT scans at the L3 vertebral level to measure psoas muscle density (PMD), skeletal muscle density (SMD), axial muscle density (AMD), and muscle indices.

Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Poultry Genetic Improvement, Nanchang 330032 China. Electronic address:

The growth and development of chicken skeletal muscle directly affects chicken meat production, which is very important for broiler industry. Matrix metallopeptidase 2 (MMP2) exists in skeletal muscle. However, the underlying regulating of MMP2 remain unknown.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different cold acclimation strategies on exercise performance in male mice exposed to low-temperature environments.

Methods: Male mice were subjected to five distinct acclimation regimens over 8 weeks: immersion at 10 °C (10 °CI) or 20 °C (20 °CI), swimming at 10 °C (10 °CS), 20 °C (20 °CS), or 34 °C (34 °CS). During the first 2 weeks, the acclimation time progressively decreased from 30 min to 3 min per day, and the water temperatures were lowered from 34 °C to the target levels, followed by 6 weeks of consistent exposure.

Diaphragmatic stripping versus full-thickness diaphragmatic resection in cytoreductive surgery: a meta-analysis of the current evidence.

Langenbecks Arch Surg

January 2025

Department of Surgery (A), Medical Faculty and University Hospital Duesseldorf, Heinrich-Heine-University, Moorenstr. 5, 40225, Duesseldorf, Germany.

Purpose: The primary objective was to compare the intra- and postoperative outcomes of diaphragmatic stripping versus full-thickness diaphragmatic resection in patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis who underwent cytoreductive surgery.

Methods: According to the PRSIMA guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted for studies comparing postoperative pulmonary complications as well as intra- and postoperative outcomes of diaphragmatic stripping versus full-thickness diaphragmatic resection in patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis necessitating cytoreductive surgery. Data from eligible studies were extracted, qualitatively assessed, and included in a meta-analysis.
