Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) take part in cell proliferation, differentiation, survival, apoptosis, transformation, cellular immunity and some other important physiological and pathological processes. Among STAT3 signaling pathways, the JAK-STAT signaling pathway has been comprehensively studied. Abnormal activation of STAT3 is frequently detected in various tumors, and the abnormal activation is closely related with the tumorigenesis. Recent studies have found that mutations and several specific genotypes of single nucleotide polymorphisms in STAT3 gene may be involved in tumor formation, also suggesting the important role of STAT3 in tumor biology. In this review, the role of STAT3 in the development of tumors is briefly summarized.

Colorectal malignancies associated with KRAS and TP53 mutations led us to investigate the effects of combination therapy targeting KRAS, MEK1, or PLK1 in colorectal cancer. MEK1 is downstream of RAS in the MAPK pathway, whereas PLK1 is a mitotic kinase of the cell cycle activated by MAPK and regulated by p53. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that patients with colorectal cancer had a high expression of MAP2K1 and PLK1.

Shear mode ultrasonic waves are in high demand for structural health monitoring (SHM) applications owing to their nondispersive characteristics, singular mode, and minimal energy loss, especially in harsh environments. However, the generation and detection of a pure shear wave using conventional piezoelectric materials present substantial challenges because of their complex piezoelectric response, involving multiple modes. Herein, we introduce a high-quality piezoelectric crystal BiSiO (BSO), exhibiting a robust piezoelectric response ( = 45.

Microglia are highly specialized resident macrophages in the central nervous system that play a pivotal role in modulating neuroinflammation. Microglial plasticity is essential for their function, allowing them to polarize into proinflammatory M1-like or anti-inflammatory M2-like phenotypes. However, the mechanisms driving M1 and M2 microglial induction during retinal degeneration remain largely unexplored.

The cornea, the anterior meniscus-shaped transparent and refractive structure of the eyeball, is the first mechanical barrier of the eye. Its functionality heavily relies on the health of its endothelium, its most posterior layer. The treatment of corneal endothelial cells (CECs) deficiency is allogeneic corneal graft using stored donor corneas.

Effect of Mechanical Force Stress on the Inflammatory Response in Human Periodontal Ligament Cells.

Human periodontal ligament (hPDL) is continuously exposed to mechanical forces that can induce inflammatory responses in resident stem cells (hPDLSCs). Here, we review the impact of mechanical force on hPDLSCs, focusing on the activation of inflammatory cytokines and related signalling pathways, which subsequently influence periodontal tissue remodelling. The effects of various mechanical forces, including compressive, shear, and tensile forces, on hPDLSCs are discussed.
