Background And Objective: The psychosocial impact of local-regional thyroid cancer recurrence is not known. The aim of this study was to explore thyroid cancer patients' experiences relating to diagnosis and treatment of local-regional disease recurrence.

Methods: We conducted 15 semi-structured interviews with survivors of differentiated thyroid cancer who underwent neck reoperation for recurrent disease. Participants were recruited from the clinical practices of thyroid surgeons and endocrinologists at University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospitals in Toronto, Ontario. Participant interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using qualitative methods. Saturation of themes was achieved.

Results: Local-regional recurrence of thyroid cancer was associated with significant psychological distress. Confidence in healthcare providers as well as psychosocial support from family or social relations, were helpful in coping with disease recurrence. After recovery from treatment, post-traumatic growth was reported. However, questions and worry about the risk for future recurrence lingered at follow-up.

Conclusions: Local-regional recurrence of thyroid cancer has a significant psychosocial impact on patients, and support needs are heightened throughout the experience. Healthcare providers should strive to ensure that medical information and psychosocial needs of such patients are met, throughout the treatment experience, as well as at follow-up.

The Chinese Guidelines for Ultrasound-guided Thermal Ablation of Thyroid Nodules (2024 edition) were jointly initiated by the Ultrasound Committee of Chinese Medical Association, the Interventional Ultrasound Committee of Chinese Association of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering, the Ultrasonic Intervention Committee of Chinese Colleges of Interventionalists, the Oncological Intervention Committee of Chinese Research Hospital Association, 37 multidisciplinary experts in interventional ultrasound, ultrasound medicine, endocrinology and thyroid surgery participated in the compilation of this guide, which expanded the depth and breadth of the perspective and enhanced the authority of the guide. Based on the systematic review of literatures related to ultrasound-guided thermal ablation of thyroid nodules and the professional opinions of experts, the guidelines define the indications and contraindications of thermal ablation, including pre-ablation evaluation and preparation, thermal ablation techniques and operational procedures, post-ablation follow-up, therapeutic effect evaluation, complications prevention and treatment, and the writing of medical documents for ablation. According to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE), a total of 17 objective and comprehensive recommendations were given.

Our recently created RNA-sequence-based microRNA (miRNA) expression signature in breast cancer clinical specimens revealed that some family members were significantly downregulated in cancer tissues. Based on TCGA database analyses, we observed that among the family members, (the passenger strand derived from pre-) was significantly downregulated in breast cancer (BC) clinical specimens, and its low expression predicted worse prognoses. Ectopic expression assays showed that transfected cancer cells (MDA-MB-157 and MDA-MB-231) had their aggressive phenotypes significantly suppressed, e.

Baseline thyroid function, as measured by the fT3 to fT4 ratio, has been shown to influence the prognosis of advanced cancer patients receiving active treatments. Although immune checkpoint blockade can alter the balance of thyroid hormones, this interaction has not been thoroughly investigated. The present research sought to determine whether changes in the fT3/fT4 ratio could affect the survival outcomes of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who were undergoing pembrolizumab-based therapies.

Department of Neurosurgery, Center for Malignant Brain Tumors, National Glioma MDT Alliance, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing 100730, China.

Unlabelled: This article reports a rare case of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) found in a patient with thyroid cancer after surgery.

Methods: The patient was initially misdiagnosed with brain metastases, and the diagnosis of PCNSL was later confirmed by pathology.

Results: The analysis of this case and review of the relevant literature explores the possible mechanisms of the coexistence of thyroid cancer and PCNSL, as well as their diagnostic, differential diagnostic, and therapeutic challenges.

In the evaluation of a patient's primary hematologic malignancy, positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging may incidentally detect a concerning abnormality suggestive of a second concurrent cancer. Despite accounting for nearly 10% of all cancers diagnosed in Canada, there has yet to be a systematic review focused on the prevalence and significance of these incidental PET/CT findings in the context of primary hematologic malignancies. As such, a systematic search strategy was employed on MEDLINE and Embase to document the prevalence and clinical significance of incidental PET/CT findings suggestive of a second concurrent cancer detected in patients evaluated for their primary hematologic malignancy.
