Different types of active inhibitors of the reaction of nitrite hemoglobin oxidation have been revealed and studied. The dependence of inhibition of methemoglobin formation, on concentration of inhibitors at pH 5.9 and 7.17 has been determined. Differential absorption spectra of the inhibitors in the presence sodium nitrite in UV and visual light has been studied. The values of oxidation-reduction potentials have been estimated. Possible mechanism of action of the inhibitors has been discussed.

Article Synopsis
  • L. (PAL), or knotgrass, has been traditionally used in various cultures to treat inflammatory conditions like arthritis and airway inflammation, but its molecular mechanisms are not fully understood.
  • The study explores the role of the antioxidant enzyme heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in mediating the anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects of PAL, specifically through its interactions with nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2).
  • Results indicate that PAL enhances HO-1 levels and reduces inflammatory markers in macrophages, but inhibiting HO-1 results in increased iNOS expression and nitric oxide production, highlighting the complex relationship between antioxidant and anti

Transcriptional and molecular simulation analysis of the response mechanism of anammox bacteria to 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate stress.

J Hazard Mater

December 2024

Key Laboratory of the Three Gorges Reservoir Region's Eco-Environments of MOE, Chongqing University, Chongqing 400045, China. Electronic address:

Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) and nitrification are two vital biological pathways for ammonium oxidation, pivotal in microbial nitrogen cycling. 3,4-Dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP) is commonly used as inhibitors in agricultural soils to reduce nitrogen losses from farmland, while whether it affect anammox is an open question. Acute inhibition tests revealed that 53.

Article Synopsis
  • Microalgae-based DeNOx technology is a new method for removing nitrogen oxides (NOx) from flue gas, particularly effective for medium to low concentrations.
  • The study investigates the mechanisms of NO removal by microalgae, specifically the T. obliquus PF3 strain, which enhances NO transfer through various processes like secretion of substances and adsorption.
  • It concludes that the main NO removal pathway is through its transformation and assimilation in the liquid phase of the algal culture, providing insights for improving microalgae DeNOx technology design and implementation.

Hydroxyurea inhibits proliferation and stimulates apoptosis through inducible nitric oxide synthase in erythroid cells.

Biomed Pharmacother

December 2024

Department of molecular oncology, Institute for Medical Research, National Institute of the Republic of Serbia, University of Belgrade, Serbia. Electronic address:

Hydroxyurea (hydroxycarbamide, HU) arrests cells in the S-phase by inhibiting ribonucleotide reductase and DNA synthesis, significantly contributing to the release of nitric oxide (NO). We investigated the involvement of inducible NO synthase (NOS2) in the cytostatic effect of HU using in vitro shRNA-induced knockdown of the NOS2 transcript (NOS2) or a specific NOS2 inhibitor (1400W) in human erythroleukemic HEL92.1.

Aims: The objective of this study was to examine the effects of empagliflozin on endothelium-dependent and endothelium-independent vasodilatation and systemic hemodynamic parameters and to assess the role of the nitric oxide (NO) system in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).

Materials And Methods: In this double-blind, placebo-controlled cross over trial, patients with T2DM were treated with either empagliflozin 10 mg or matching placebo for 4 weeks. Following a 2-week washout, participants were crossed over to 4 weeks of the opposite treatment.
