Objective: Nonverbal and verbal communication elements enhance and reinforce the consent form in the informed consent process and need to be transferred appropriately to multimedia formats using interaction design when re-designing the process.
Methods: Observational, question asking behavior, and content analyses were used to analyze nonverbal and verbal elements of an informed consent process.
Results: A variety of gestures, interruptions, and communication styles were observed.
Conclusion: In converting a verbal conversation about a textual document to multimedia formats, all aspects of the original process including verbal and nonverbal variation should be one part of an interaction community-centered design approach.

With the increasing application of robots in human-centred environments, there is increasing motivation for incorporating some degree of human-like social competences. Fields such as psychology and cognitive science not only provide guidance on the types of behaviour that could and should be exhibited by the robots, they may also indicate the manner in which these behaviours can be achieved. The domain of social child-robot interaction (sCRI) provides a number of challenges and opportunities in this regard; the application to an educational context allows child-learning outcomes to be characterised as a result of robot social behaviours.

In five studies, we document the development and validation of the Non-verbal Communication Questionnaire (NVCQ). This eight-item measurement tool assesses how people perceive non-verbal cues across two dimensions of effective communication. These two dimensions, encouraging and discouraging non-verbal cues, are based on Khan and Zeb's (2021) version of the 10-part model of non-verbal communication.
