Venous edema of the limb presents several challenges to clinicians, particularly with regard to its definition, pathophysiology and measurement, as well as those relating to its management. Compression therapy forms the cornerstone of standard care for thromboprophylaxis and management of lower limb venous and lymphatic disorders. Venoactive drugs, of plant or synthetic origin, have also been shown to be effective and safe in the management of venous edema and/or chronic venous disease-related symptoms. This article, based on a symposium held at the XXV World Congress of the International Union of Angiology on 2-5 July 2012 (Prague, Czech Republic), provides an overview of some of the recent developments in the use of phlebotonic and compression therapy in the management of patients with lower limb venous edema, with a focus on Cyclo 3 Fort(®) and progressive compression stockings.

POEMS syndrome (Polyneuropathy, Organomegaly, Endocrinopathy, Monoclonal Protein, Skin changes) is a syndrome that involves a monoclonal B-cell proliferation, most often plasmacytic, and a variable number of manifestations listed or not in the acronym. These manifestations include sclerotic bone lesions, plasmacytic Castleman disease, papillary edema, peripheral edema, ascites, thrombocytosis and/or polycythemia, venous and/or arterial thrombosis, and renal, pulmonary, and cardiac impairments . Diagnosis is often delayed due to the rarity of this entity and its clinical polymorphism, which can mimic other neurological disorders.

The purpose of this manuscript is to report a rare case of pediatric central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) in the setting of atypical hypercoagulable tests. An 11-year-old female presented to the emergency department with painless, visual changes in the left eye. Ophthalmological examination was remarkable for a central area of retinal ischemia and edema with sparing along the distribution of the cilioretinal artery along with a cherry red spot, all of which were consistent with a CRAO.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of the platelet indices for the diagnosis of acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in pregnant women.
Materials And Methods: Pregnant women aged 20-45 years who presented to the emergency room with leg pain and edema and underwent bilateral lower extremity venous Doppler examination for DVT were included in the study. Platelet large cell ratio (P-LCR), platelet distribution width (PDW) and mean platelet volume (MPV) values, which provide information on current platelet activity in the hemogram parameters recorded at first presentation in the emergency department, were analyzed between the two groups.

Background: Central retinal vein occlusion and cilioretinal artery occlusion are rare but serious ocular conditions that can lead to significant visual impairment. While few cases of central retinal vein occlusion and cilioretinal artery occlusion have been individually reported, concurrent occlusion of both vessels is extremely rare, particularly in younger patients without traditional vascular risk factors. We present the first reported case of simultaneous central retinal vein occlusion and cilioretinal artery occlusion in a young female patient associated with short-term use of progestin-only oral contraceptives (OCPs).
