This six-year retrospective longitudinal study was conducted to examine the changes in the pattern of prescribing soft contact lenses in an optometry centre located in a University in South India. Details regarding the type of lenses, lens material, wearing pattern and the clinical diagnoses were analyzed from January 2006 to December 2011. A total of 1273 soft contact lens fits (n=1273) were analyzed. Two-third of the total lenses dispensed was for females and their mean age (24.0±8.3 yrs) was less than that of male (27.0±11.2 yrs) lens users. Nearly 70% of them had myopia and 48% wore conventional soft contact lenses. During the studied six years, the percentage of conventional lenses declined by 60%. This study demonstrated a gradual and significant increase in popularity of disposable contact lenses and silicone hydrogel lens material which is comparable to the global trend.

The ability to convert moisture signals into electrical signals through contactless control underpins a wide range of applications, including health monitoring, disaster warning, and energy harvesting. Despite its potential, the effective utilization of low-grade energy remains challenging, as it often requires complex device architectures that limit scalability and integration, particularly in wearable technologies. Here, we present a soft, flexible moisture-electric converter made from cellulose nanocrystals and polyvinyl alcohol composite films, designed for a novel touchless interactive platform.

Droplet evaporation on solid substrates is a ubiquitous phenomenon and is relevant in many natural and industrial processes. Whereas it has been reported that the evaporation process is sped up on soft substrates compared with that on hard substrates, no attempt has been made in exploring how substrate stretching affects droplet evaporation and evaporative deposition patterns. Here, we systematically investigate the contact line dynamics of droplets evaporating on substrates with different stiffnesses and stretching ratios and the structures of the evaporative deposition patterns of nanoparticles.

Purpose: To determine the performance of TOTAL30 for Astigmatism (T30fA; Alcon; Fort Worth, TX, USA) contact lenses (CLs) in existing CL wearers who are also frequent digital device users.
Methods: This 1-month, 3-visit study recruited adult, 18- to 40-year-old subjects who were required to use daily digital devices for at least 8 hours per day. All subjects were refit into T30fA CLs.

Reduced weight-bearing during spaceflight has been associated with musculoskeletal degradation that risks astronaut health and performance in transit and upon reaching deep space destinations. Previous rodent experiments aboard the international space station (ISS) have identified that the spaceflight-induced molecular arthritic phenotype was characterized with an increase in oxidative stress. This study evaluated if treatment with a superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic on orbit could prevent spaceflight-induced damage to the knee and hip articular cartilage, and the menisci in rodents.
