The differences in magnetic properties of metal-based nanometric assemblies are due to distinct contributions from host-guest interactions, structural integrity, and magnetic interactions. To disentangle these contributions, it is necessary to control the self-assembly process that forms these entities. Herein we study the effect of host-to-guest ratios to identify remarkably different structural-magnetic contributions of C-methylpyrogallol[4]arene⊂ferrocene/(PgC1)2⊂Fc dimers vs (PgC1)3⊂Fc nanotubes. At low temperature, a weak anti-ferromagnetic alignment is observed, suggesting a weak dipolar interaction between Fc guest moieties within adjacent dimers or tubes. Also, differences are observed between magnetic atom occupancy as a function of guest (PgC1⊂Fc tube/dimer) versus magnetic atom occupancy within the framework wall (PgC3Ni hexamer/dimer). Identification of the role of the framework shape and metal-metal distances in the crystal lattice opens up unparalleled prospects for materials engineering.

This study introduces a novel water-insoluble dispersant for coal water slurry (CWS), namely, a poly(sodium styrene sulfonate)- SiO nanoparticle (SiO--PSSNa). SiO--PSSNa was synthesized by combining the surface acylation reaction with surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP). Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) verified that SiO--PSSNa with the desired structure was successfully obtained.

Optoelectronic Properties of Shallow Donor Atom in 2D-Curved Nanostructures Under External Electric and Magnetic Fields.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Grupo de Materia Condensada-UdeA, Instituto de Física, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Universidad de Antioquia UdeA, Calle 70 No. 52-21, Medellín 050010, Colombia.

Using the effective mass approximation and the finite difference method, we examined the linear, non-linear, and total optical absorption coefficients (OAC), as well as the relative refractive index coefficients (RIC) variations for an off-center shallow donor impurity in a 2D-curved electronic nanostructure subjected to external electric and magnetic fields. Our results reveal that the peak positions of the OAC and RIC are susceptible to the geometrical angles, the impurity position, and the strength of the applied electric and magnetic fields. In particular, the positions of the OAC and RIC peaks can be shifted towards blue or red by adjusting the geometric angle.

Iron-based nanomaterials (IBNMs) have been widely applied in biomedicine applications including magnetic resonance imaging, targeted drug delivery, tumor therapy, and so forth, due to their unique magnetism, excellent biocompatibility, and diverse modalities. Further research on its enormous biomedical potential is still ongoing, and its new features are constantly being tapped and demonstrated. Among them, various types of IBNMs have demonstrated significant cancer therapy capabilities by regulating the tumor microenvironment (TME).

Searching for single-molecule magnets (SMM) with large effective blocking barriers, long relaxation times, and high magnetic blocking temperatures is vitally important not only for the fundamental research of magnetism at the molecular level but also for the realization of new-generation magnetic memory unit. Actinides (An) atoms possess extremely strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) due to their 5 orbitals, and their ground multiplets are largely split into several sublevels because of the strong interplay between the SOC of An atoms and the crystal field (CF) formed by ligand atoms. Compared to TM-based SMMs, more dispersed energy level widths of An-based SMMs will give a larger total zero field splitting (ZFS) and thus provide a necessary condition to derive a higher .

Supercarbon assembly inspired two-dimensional hourglass fermion.

J Chem Phys

January 2025

MOE Key Laboratory for Non-Equilibrium Synthesis and Modulation of Condensed Matter, School of Physics, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an 710049, Shaanxi, China.

By using a tight-binding model, first-principles calculations, and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, we theoretically demonstrate that the C76-Td-assembled two-dimensional (2D) honeycomb lattice is stable at room temperature and is resistant to mechanical deformation. We disclose that each C76-Td mimics a single carbon atom (geometrically and electronically); hence, it plays the role of one supercarbon. This inspires that the 2D material exhibits an exotic hourglass-like fermion at the Fermi level.
