Rationale And Objectives: The estimation of the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) often relies on the assumption that the truly positive population tends to have higher marker results than the truly negative population. The authors propose a discriminatory measure to relax such an assumption and apply the measure to identify the appropriate set of markers for combination.

Materials And Methods: The proposed measure is based on the maximum of the AUC and 1-AUC. The existing methods are applied to estimate the measure. The subset of markers is selected using a combination method that maximizes a function of the proposed discriminatory score with the number of markers as a penalty in the function.

Results: The properties of the estimators for the proposed measure were studied through large-scale simulation studies. The application was illustrated through a real example to identify the set of markers to combine.

Conclusion: Simulation results showed excellent small-sample performance of the estimators for the proposed measure. The application in the example yielded a reasonable subset of markers for combination.

Latent transition analysis (LTA) is a useful statistical modelling approach for describe transitions between latent classes over time. LTA may be characterized in terms of prevalence at each time point and through transition probabilities over time. Investigating predictors of these transitions is often of key interest.

NO is a significant primary atmospheric pollutant that plays a key role in atmospheric chemistry. It serves as a crucial precursor to photochemical smog, acid rain, and secondary particulate matter and is instrumental in determining the atmospheric oxidation capacity. In this review, we focus on the heterogeneous chemistry of NO, which has been demonstrated to significantly influence the sources and sinks of various nitrogen-containing species through field measurements and model simulations.

Objective: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition characterized by social communication differences and restricted interests. One proposed biologic mechanism underlying ASD is oxidative stress, leading to the clinical use of glutathione based on anecdotal reports of improved behavior in autistic children. In this pilot study, we tested this observation using a randomized clinical trial format to collect preliminary data on glutathione safety and efficacy.

We present the synthesis, structural analysis, and remarkable reactivity of the first carbon nanohoop that fully incorporates ferrocene in the macrocyclic backbone. The high strain imposed on the ferrocene by the curved nanohoop structure enables unprecedented photochemical reactivity of this otherwise photochemically inert metallocene complex. Visible light activation triggers a ring-opening of the nanohoop structure, fully dissociating the Fe-cyclopentadienyl bonds in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline.
