The availability of drugs for stable COPD treatment in China: a cross-sectional survey.

NPJ Prim Care Respir Med

January 2025

Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, China.

This survey aimed to investigate the availability of drugs for stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) treatment in Chinese hospitals and to determine whether drug availability significantly varied among hospitals with different characteristics. A well-constructed questionnaire was designed according to the Chinese Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of COPD (revised version 2021). Both inhaled drugs (monotherapy, double therapy and triple therapy) and oral drugs (expectorants, theophylline, antibiotics, and bacterial lysates) were included in this survey.

Pharmaceutical 3D printing (3DP) not only offers the possibility of dose personalization but also the co-administration of multiple active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in one combination tablet. In this study, Theophylline (TPH) and Prednisolone (PSL) were printed as bi-tablets, which are single tablets with two distinct separate compartments. New findings show that the combination therapy of TPH with systemic corticosteroids shows a highly synergistic effect in the treatment of pulmonary diseases.

Theophylline derivatives promote primordial follicle activation via cAMP-PI3K/Akt pathway and ameliorate fertility deficits in naturally aged mice.

Int J Biol Sci

October 2024

The Innovation Centre of Ministry of Education for Development and Diseases, The Second Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, Guangdong, 510006, China.

In elderly women and patients with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), activating their remaining dormant primordial follicles is challenging. In this study, we found that phosphodiesterase (PDE) subtypes were expressed mainly in primordial follicle oocytes. The specific PDE inhibitors and theophylline derivatives (aminophylline, dyphylline, and enprofylline) activated primordial follicles in neonatal mice by ovary culture and intraperitoneal injection.
