Human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) belongs to the genus of the betaherpesvirus subfamily, causing exanthema subitum and encephalitis. Although viral ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) is conserved in betaherpesviruses, it has lost its enzymatic activity. Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) belongs to the other betaherpesvirus genus, ; its RNR inhibits nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) signaling via interaction with the adaptor molecule RIPK1.

Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a vector-borne disease caused by the obligate intracellular protozoan in India. VL can be complicated by post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL), a macular or nodular rash that develops in 10%-20% of patients after treatment of VL in India. Patients with PKDL are infectious to sand flies, promoting further transmission of the parasite.

We report a case of the appearance of dark pigmented skin on the plantar surface of the foot and toes in a young child, likely caused by the beetle Few such documented cases occur in the literature and none reported from our region.
