A new dithienophosphole-based donor-acceptor conjugated luminophore shows a large halochromic effect on its emission color that changes from red to green upon addition of acid. White light emission can be generated upon partial protonation resulting in a broad emission band.

We examined how urban environments affect the abundance, proportion, and diversity of plumage color morphs in feral pigeons. Five major plumage color morphs (black, blue, white, red, and mixed) were counted in sixty 25-ha plots in Poznań City (Poland). Generalized additive models were used to study the correlations among abundance, proportion of morphs, and environmental factors.

Light-emitting diode (LED) lamps are efficient elicitors of secondary metabolites. To investigate the influence of LED light on steviol glycosides (SGs) and phenolic compounds biosynthesis, stevia shoots were cultured under the following LED lights: white-WL, blue-B, red-R, 70% red and 30% blue-RB, 50% UV, 35% red and 15% blue-RBUV, 50% green, 35% red and 15% blue-RBG, 50% yellow, 35% red and 15% blue-RBY, 50% far-red, 35% red and 15% blue-RBFR and white fluorescent light (WFl, control). RBG light stimulated shoots' biomass production.

This study evaluated the effect of a broiler-specific light spectrum on productive performance corticosterone (fCC) and androgen dehydroepiandrosterone (fDHEA) concentrations in feathers, and glucocorticoid (GCMs) and androgen (AMs) metabolites in droppings of broilers. Two groups of female Ross 308 broilers were reared under white LED (WL, n = 9000) and broiler-specific LED (BSL, n = 9000) lights. The body weight (BW) of 150 randomly selected animals/groups was measured weekly.

The pupillary direct and consensual reflex is an important non-invasive quick assessment of the neurological state of the eye. Currently, there is no cheap and affordable recording tool for screening and documentation of a relative afferent pupillary defect. We describe how to construct a frugal, do-it-yourself handheld scotopic binocular pupillometer device called Pupilmate.

In recent years, the demand for orthopedic implants has surged due to increased life expectancy, necessitating the need for materials that better mimic the biomechanical properties of human bone. Traditional metal implants, despite their mechanical superiority and biocompatibility, often face challenges such as mismatched elastic modulus and ion release, leading to complications and implant failures. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK), a semi-crystalline polymer with an aromatic backbone, presents a promising alternative due to its adjustable elastic modulus and compatibility with bone tissue.
