The authors compared the safety and efficacy of 0.5 and 1.0 g of cefotetan with that of 0.25 g of ceftriaxone in a 3:3:2 randomized distribution. Of 172 patients (96 men, 76 women) aged 18-43 years who were being treated at the Delgado Venereal Disease Clinic, New Orleans Health Department, for acute gonococcal urethritis or cervicitis, 123 were evaluable (81 men, 42 women). All men and 16 women were initially symptomatic. All were culture positive for Neisseria gonorrhoeae. At the 4-8 day follow-up, cultures were negative for N. gonorrhoeae in all except one man and one woman, each of whom received cefotetan 0.5 g. Symptoms were eliminated 12-72 hr after therapy in all groups. Cefotetan was well tolerated, and there were few adverse experiences reported. Thus, the authors consider cefotetan safe and effective for the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea.

Background: An estimated 17% of all couples worldwide are involuntarily childless (infertile). The clinically identifiable causes of infertility can be found in the male or female partner or in both. The molecular pathophysiology of infertility still remains unclear in many cases but is increasingly being revealed by genetic analyses.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) leads to a more rapid development of DM cardiomyopathy (dbCM) and progression to heart failure in women than men. Combination of high-fat diet (HFD) and freshly-injected streptozotocin (STZ) has been widely used for DM induction, however emerging data shows that anomer-equilibrated STZ produces an early onset and robust DM model. We designed a novel protocol utilising a combination of multiple doses of anomer-equilibrated STZ injections and HFD to develop a stable murine DM model featuring dbCM analogous to humans.

Previous research has highlighted the benefits followers gain from their leaders' initiating structure and consideration. Adopting a leader-centric perspective, we propose that leaders' gender influences the impact of these behaviors for leaders themselves. Drawing from conservation of resources and gender role theories, we explain why gender-role-inconsistent leader behaviors (behaviors that go against gender stereotypes, such as initiating structure for women and consideration for men) is detrimental, while engaging in gender-role-consistent leader behaviors (such as initiating structure for men and consideration for women) is beneficial.
