A new methodology based on fluorescent signal enhancement of o-cresolphthalein (o-CPT) for traces of cadmium determination is proposed. The dye was retained on membrane filters in the presence of a micellar surfactant solution of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). All the experimental variables that influence both the preconcentration procedure and the fluorimetric sensitivity were carefully optimized. The calibration graph using zeroth order regression was linear from 6.5 ng L(-1) to 5.65×10(5) ng L(-1), with a correlation coefficient higher than 0.999. Under optimal conditions, the limits of detection and quantification were of 2 ng L(-1) and 6.5 ng L(-1). respectively. The proposed method showed good sensitivity and selectivity, with good tolerance to foreign ions, and it was applied to the determination of trace amounts of cadmium in leachate from cigarettes' tobacco samples with satisfactory results. The trueness of the recommended procedure was assessed through parallel analysis of the samples with electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry. This methodology represents an innovative and attractive application of membrane filters that enables metal traces determination by solid surface fluorescence.

A new twofold interpenetrated 3D metal-organic framework (MOF), namely, poly[[μ-aqua-diaqua{μ-2,2'-[terephthaloylbis(azanediyl)]diacetato}barium(II)] dihydrate], {[Ba(CHNO)(HO)]·2HO}, (I), has been assembled through a combination of the reaction of 2,2'-[terephthaloylbis(azanediyl)]diacetic acid (TPBA, HL) with barium hydroxide and crystallization at low temperature. In the crystal structure of (I), the nine-coordinated Ba ions are bridged by two μ-aqua ligands and two carboxylate μ-O atoms to form a 1D loop-like Ba-O chain, which, together with the other two coordinated water molecules and μ-carboxylate groups, produces a rod-like secondary building unit (SBU). The resultant 1D polynuclear SBUs are further extended into a 3D MOF via the terephthalamide moiety of the ligand as a spacer.

The research aims to investigate the mechanical response of footfalls at different velocities to understand the mechanism of heel injury and provide a scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of heel fractures. A three-dimensional solid model of foot drop was constructed using anatomical structures segmented from medical CT scans, including bone, cartilage, ligaments, plantar fascia, and soft tissues, and the impact velocities of the foot were set to be 2 m/s, 4 m/s, 6 m/s, 8 m/s, and 10 m/s. Explicit kinetic analysis methods were used to investigate the mechanical response of the foot landing with different speeds to explore the damage mechanism of heel bone at different impact velocities.

The development of mechanically robust super-lubrication hydrogel materials with sustained lubricity at high contact pressures is challenging. In this work, inspired by the durable lubricity feature of the earthworm epidermis, a multilevel structural super-lubrication hydrogel (MS-SLH) system, the so-called lubricant self-pumping hydrogel, is developed. The MS-SLH system is manufactured by chemically dissociating a double network hydrogel to generate robust and wrinkled lubrication layer, and then laser etching was used to generate cylindrical texture pores as gland-like pockets for storing lubricants.

In agricultural and waste management systems, dairy manure wastewater is often recycled for irrigation. However, a key challenge lies in handling suspended solids (SS) and effectively dewatering sludge. To address this, an innovative polycationic soybean protein-based flocculant (SPI+) was developed and applied to enhance flocculation and sludge dewatering efficiency.

Enhancing the decomposition rate of ammonium perchlorate (AP), the most common oxidizer in solid propellants, is important for improving propellant performance. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have been developed as key materials for catalyzing AP decomposition, as they can achieve good dispersion of active sites through in-situ decomposition. Despite having considerable potential, the structural transformation process and catalytic performance of MOFs in AP decomposition are still unclear, which seriously hinders their application in the field of AP decomposition.
