Glucosylceramide (Glc beta 1-1Cer) was isolated from the spermatozoa of the starfish, Asterias amurensis. The long-chain bases of the glycolipid consisted of dihydroxy (d18:2, d18:3, d19:3, and d22:2), and trihydroxy (t22:1) types. Long-chain aldehydes derived from them were analyzed mainly by proton nuclear-magnetic resonance to determine the detailed structures. Two of the tri-unsaturated bases were identified as (4E,8E,10E)-2-amino-4,8,10-octadecatriene-1,3-di ol (d18:3) and (4E,8E,10E)-2-amino-9-methyl-4,8,10-octadecatriene+ ++-1,3-diol (d19:3), which is a novel base. Both d22:2 and t22:1 had a cis double bond at the C9 or C13 position. All fatty acids were 2-hydroxylated (C14-C25): Most of them were saturated and unbranched. About 10% was mono-unsaturated and unbranched (C22-C25), while saturated but branched (iso- and anteiso-types) C15-C18 acids were found as minor components. The main fatty acids, which summed up to more than 93% of the fatty acids in the glucosylceramide, were n-14h:0, n-15h:0, n-16h:0, n-17h:0, n-18h:0, and n-24h:1.

Aquaculture is one of the world's fastest-growing sectors in food production but with multiple challenges related to animal handling and infections. The disease caused by infectious salmon anemia virus (ISAV) leads to outbreaks of local epidemics, reducing animal welfare, and causing significant economic losses. The composition of feed has shifted from marine ingredients such as fish oil and fish meal towards a more plant-based diet causing reduced levels of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

Intestinal TM6SF2 protects against metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis through the gut-liver axis.

Transmembrane-6 superfamily member 2 (TM6SF2) regulates hepatic fat metabolism and is associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). TM6SF2 genetic variants are associated with steatotic liver disease. The pathogenesis of MASH involves genetic factors and gut microbiota alteration, yet the role of host-microbe interactions in MASH development remains unclear.

To evaluate if egg consumption is associated with sleep quality and psychological health (depression, anxiety, and stress) in women with type 2 diabetes. A cross-sectional study was conducted on women with type 2 diabetes (n = 230). Weight, height, waist circumference (WC), and blood pressure were measured.

Professorship of Exercise Biology, Department Health and Sport Sciences, TUM School of Medicine and Health, Technical University of Munich, Munich, Germany.

While the effect of time-of-day (morning versus evening) on hormones, lipids and lipolysis has been studied in relation to meals and exercise, there are no studies that have investigated the effects of time-of-day on ice bath induced hormone and lipidome responses. In this crossover-designed study, a group of six women and six men, 26 ± 5 years old, 176 ± 7 cm tall, weighing 75 ± 10 kg, and a BMI of 23 ± 2 kg/mhad an ice bath (8-12 °C for 5 min) both in the morning and evening on separate days. Absence from intense physical exercise, nutrient intake and meal order was standardized in the 24 h prior the ice baths to account for confounders such as diet or exercise.

Influence of selected dosages of plastic microparticles on the porcine fecal microbiome.

Studies conducted so far have shown that nano- and microplastic may disturb the intestinal microenvironment by interacting with the intestinal epithelium and the gut microbiota. Depending on the research model used, the effect on the microbiome is different-an increase or decrease in selected taxa resulting in the development of dysbiosis. Dysbiosis may be associated with intestinal inflammation, development of mental disorders or diabetes.
