The case of pregnant woman, whose first child was born with neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (NATP) and PlA2/PlA1 constellation, is used as an example to draw up a programme for the care of pregnant women whose children are expected to be born with NATP. In one of 2,000 to one of 3,000 cases, the PlA1-positive foetal platelets cause a sensitization of the PlA1-negative mother. Transplacental passage of maternal IgG alloantibodies leads to accelerated destruction of foetal platelets. The pathophysiologic process is similar to Rh-erythroblastosis foetalis. The infants show symptoms ranging from cutaneous manifestations to intracranial haemorrhages.

Fetal bovine serum (FBS) has long been the standard supplement in cell culture media, providing essential growth factors and proteins that support cell growth and differentiation. However, ethical concerns and rising costs associated with FBS have driven researchers to explore alternatives, particularly human platelet lysate (HPL). Among these alternatives, fibrinogen-depleted HPL (FD-HPL) has gained attention due to its reduced thrombogenicity, which minimizes the risk of clot formation in cell cultures and enhances the safety of therapeutic applications.

Objective: There is a dearth of published data on the vitamin D status of the Ugandan population; the objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among pregnant women in Uganda and its associations with maternal characteristics and adverse foetal-maternal outcomes.
Study Design And Setting: We conducted a cross-sectional study on pregnant women admitted to a tertiary referral hospital in Kampala, Uganda for delivery during the study period from July to December 2023.
Participants: The study was conducted on 351 pregnant women aged ≥18 years who consented to participate in the study, who had a single intrauterine pregnancy and a gestational age greater than 26 weeks, and who delivered at St.

Fine particulate matter (PM) is one of the most concerning air pollutants, with emerging evidence indicating that it can negatively impact embryonic development and lead to adverse birth outcomes. Hematopoiesis is a critical process essential for the survival and normal development of the embryo, consisting of three temporally overlapping stages and involving multiple hematopoietic loci, including the yolk sac and fetal liver. Therefore, we hypothesized that abnormal embryonic hematopoietic development can significantly influence developmental outcomes.
