Thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT) is a key component in thiopurine metabolism. There is an insufficient evidence about the distribution of the genotype frequencies of TPMT variants and frequencies of TPMT alleles associated with intermediate and deficient activity in a healthy Slovak population and pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). TPMT variant alleles (*1,*2, *3A, *3B, and *3C) were determined in 114 children treated for IBD and in 281 healthy volunteers. Mutant alleles were present in 9/114 (7.89%) in the IBD patients and in 23/281 (8.19%) of probands. The distribution of the most frequent variants of TPMT gene was similar in a healthy population and patients with IBD.

Objectives: Patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are repeatedly affected by oral diseases or problems, including dental caries and periodontal diseases (PDs). Periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis are chronic inflammatory destructive diseases that share many similarities. The objective of this study was to assess oral health status including examination of hard dental tissues and periodontium in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and compare the results with healthy controls.

Objectives: Many studies draw attention to the negative consequences of the pandemic or lockdown on the well-being and lifestyle of different sections of the population. The tear fluids from three healthy individuals and three patients with diabetes mellitus were examined using atomic force microscopy-infrared spectroscopy (AFM-IR) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The dried tear samples showed different surface morphologies: the control sample had a dense network of heart-shaped dendrites, while the diabetic sample had fern-shaped dendrites. By using the AFM-IR technique we identified spatial distribution of constituents, indicating how diabetes affects the structural characteristics of dried tears.
