Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is characterized as an extreme form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in which a combination of severe mood, somatic, and cognitive symptoms present one to two weeks prior to the onset of menstruation. As people increasingly turn to social media, specifically TikTok, to gain information about health-related topics and information, discourse about this taboo chronic condition has increased. Sensitized by concepts from the theory of communicative disenfranchisement (TCD), our two-pronged methodological approach includes a content analysis of TikTok videos ( 97) that discuss PMDD symptomology, treatment, and a thematic analysis of disenfranchising talk associated with PMDD.

Background/objectives: Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is a common condition affecting up to 90% of menstruating women, which often results in significant pain without an underlying pathology. Zinc, recognized for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects through inhibiting prostaglandin production and superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) upregulation, alleviates menstrual pain by preventing uterine spasms and enhancing microcirculation in the endometrium, suggesting its potential as an alternative treatment for primary dysmenorrhea. The goal of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess the efficacy and safety of zinc supplementation in reducing pain severity among women with PD and to explore the influence of dosage and treatment duration.

Background: Despite the universal nature of postpartum vaginal bleeding after childbirth and the importance of managing vaginal bleeding in the postpartum period to monitor health status, little is known about the information or products that birthing individuals are provided. Investigating current practices may offer insights to enacting more supportive and equitable postpartum care.
