In the title compound, {[Zn(C8H4O5)(C12H10N2)]·0.5C12H10N2}n or {[Zn(HO-BDC)(bpe)]·0.5bpe}n [HO-H2BDC is 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid and bpe is 1,2-bis(pyridin-4-yl)ethene], the asymmetric unit contains a Zn(II) atom, one HO-BDC ligand, one coordinated bpe ligand and half a noncoordinating bpe molecule with crystallographic inversion symmetry. Each Zn(II) centre is four-coordinated by two O atoms from two distinct HO-BDC ligands and two N atoms from two different bpe ligands in a ZnO2N2 coordination environment. The three-dimensional topology of the title compound corresponds to a fourfold interpenetrating diamondoid coordination polymer network, with the uncoordinated bpe ligands located in the cavities, hydrogen bonded to the main network via the hydroxy group of the HO-H2BDC ligand.

The development of porous materials with flexible-robust characteristics shows some unique advantages to target high performance for gas separation, but remains a daunting challenge to achieve so far. Herein, we report a carboxyl-based hydrogen-bonded organic framework (ZJU-HOF-8a) with flexible-robust porosity for efficient purification of natural gas. ZJU-HOF-8a features a four-fold interpenetrated structure with dia topology, wherein abundant supramolecular entanglements are formed between the adjacent subnetworks through weak intermolecular hydrogen bonds.

Tribological Properties of Polyimide Composites Modified with Diamondoid Metal-Organic Frameworks.

Polymers (Basel)

March 2024

State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou 73000, China.

In this work, diamondoid metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were efficiently prepared by sonochemical synthesis and grown on polyimide (PI), aiming to improve the anti-wear performance of the PI matrix. By introducing MOFs into the PI matrix, the free movement of PI molecular chains were restricted, and its hardness and elastic modulus were improved. It was found that the wear rate of the 3 wt.

Recent work has demonstrated that temporary crosslinks in polymer networks generated by chemical "fuels" afford materials with large, transient changes in their mechanical properties. This can be accomplished in carboxylic-acid-functionalized polymer hydrogels using carbodiimides, which generate anhydride crosslinks with lifetimes on the order of minutes to hours. Here, the impact of the polymer network architecture on the mechanical properties of transiently crosslinked materials was explored.

Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) are an emerging class of porous materials that hold promise for the adsorptive separation of industrially relevant gas mixtures. However, developing HOFs with high thermal stability and resistance to water remains a daunting challenge. We report here a microporous HOF (HIAM-103) assembled from a hexacarboxylate linker (2,4,6-trimethylbenzene-1,3,5-triylisophthalic acid, HTMBTI).

Electroactive composite materials are very promising for musculoskeletal tissue engineering because they can be applied in combination with electrostimulation. In this context, novel graphene-based poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate)/polyvinyl alcohol (PHBV/PVA) semi-interpenetrated networks (semi-IPN) hydrogels were engineered with low amounts of graphene (G) nanosheets dispersed within the polymer matrix to endow them with electroactive properties. The nanohybrid hydrogels, obtained by applying a hybrid solvent casting-freeze-drying method, show an interconnected porous structure and a high water-absorption capacity (swelling degree > 1200%).
