Background: The potential edematogenic effect and the pharmacological characterization of a glucose-mannose-binding lectin from Dioclea violacea (DvL) were investigated.

Methods: Paw edema was induced with DvL in control animals, and in animals pretreated with glucocorticoid or with blockers of histamine, nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase, platelet activating factor (PAF), bradykinin and lipoxygenase.

Results: DvL-induced paw edema paralleled with an increase in vascular permeability and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity. DvL-induced edema could be prevented by pre-treatment with the lectin-binding sugar α-D-methyl mannoside. Dexamethasone, meclizine and Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride (L-NAME) inhibited this effect.

Conclusions: DvL induces edema, increase in vascular permeability and neutrophil infiltration. The edematogenic activity involves the lectin mannose-binding sites and is associated with histamine, cytokines and nitric oxide, since it could be treated with meclizine, dexamethasone and L-NAME.

Juice and decoction of leaves of Suaeda fruticosa, a halophytic medicinal plant of Cholistan desert, is traditionally used to treat rheumatism. The current study was carried out to probe into in vivo anti-nociceptive, anti-inflammatory, and anti-arthritic potential of ethanolic extract of the whole plant of S. fruticosa (Et-SF) and its bioactive molecules.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder affecting multiple joints and requires lifelong treatment. Present study was designed to formulate Esculin-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (ENPs) and evaluation of its anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic action. The acute toxicity study of ENPs was also performed.

(Family: Fabaceae) is traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine for various medicinal purposes, including as a treatment for wounds, leprosy, skin diseases, fever, diabetes, etc. Although the root and stem of this plant have a significant medicinal value, there was little research on the leaves of this plant. This study aimed to investigate the qualitative phytochemical profile and evaluate the in vitro cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiarthritic activities, as well as the in vivo anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities, of leaf extract.

Zaltoprofen (ZAL) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with a short half-life (∼2.8 h) due to extensive first pass metabolism. In this context, 16 different polymeric film forming solutions (PFFS) of ZAL were developed using different grades of Eudragits, Polyvinylpyrrolidones, Kollicoat MAE 100 P and Hydroxypropyl cellulose as film formers, and polyethylene glycol 400 as a plasticizer in equal parts of ethanol and isopropyl alcohol used as solvents.
