A method for the simultaneous analysis of nucleosides and nucleotides in infant formula using reversed-phase liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry is described. This approach is advantageous for compliance testing of infant formula over other LC-MS methods in which only nucleotides or nucleosides are measured. Following sample dissolution, protein was removed by centrifugal ultrafiltration. Chromatographic analyses were performed using a C18 stationary phase and gradient elution of an ammonium acetate/bicarbonate buffer, mass spectrometric detection and quantitation by a stable isotope-labelled internal standard technique. A single laboratory validation was performed, with spike recoveries of 80.1-112.9% and repeatability relative standard deviations of 1.9-7.2%. Accuracy as bias was demonstrated against reference values for NIST1849a certified reference material. The method has been validated for the analysis of bovine milk-based, soy-based, caprine milk-based and hydrolysed milk protein-based infant formulae.

The increased use of dairy fat in various applications is facilitated by its fractionation into hard and liquid fractions. Herein, the fractionation of bovine ghee and buffalo ghee was investigated, and triacylglycerol (TAG) profiles of milk fat fractions and 2 categories of infant formulas fat were quantified by using ultra-performance convergence chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPC-Q-TOF-MS) using carbon dioxide as the mobile phase. Furthermore, the thermal behavior of the different samples was evaluated, and tocopherols content was also quantified.

This study employed proteomics and phosphoproteomics to compare protein expression and phosphorylation modifications in the milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) of human and bovine mature milk. A total of 410 proteins and 73 phosphorylation sites on 49 proteins were identified in the MFGM of bovine and human mature milk, respectively. Differential analysis revealed 40 differentially expressed proteins and 8 differentially phosphorylated sites, followed by bioinformatics analysis.

Gastroesophageal reflux is a common physiologic event in infants in which gastric contents pass from the stomach into the esophagus. Gastroesophageal reflux may be asymptomatic or cause regurgitation or "spit up." This occurs daily in approximately 40% of infants.

Background: Bisphenol A (BPA) is one of the chemical compounds used in food packaging, so it can migrate from the packaging into food. Also, environmental pollution of this compound is high due to its high use. Therefore, it may enter food chains through the environment.

Objective: Describe experiences of, and responses to, 2022 infant formula shortages among households with infants aged up to 18 months by race/ethnicity using Household Pulse Survey data.
Methods: Outcomes included whether households were affected by shortages and, if so, 3 nonmutually exclusive response categories (increased breastmilk, obtained formula atypically, and disruptive coping [disruptions to breastmilk and/or formula]) and 1 mutually exclusive response category (solely disruptive coping). Unadjusted shares reporting each were compared using t tests.
