In response to external stress, mitochondrial dynamics is often disrupted, but the associated physiologic changes are often uncharacterized. In many cancers, including glioblastoma (GBM), mitochondrial dysfunction has been observed. Understanding how mitochondrial dynamics and physiology contribute to treatment resistance will lead to more targeted and effective therapeutics.

Background: This survey of rural nurses' experiences is part of a program evaluation of the Rural Surgical and Obstetrical Networks (RSON), a five-year initiative (2018-2023) to strengthen and stabilize rural hospitals in British Columbia (BC), Canada.
Purpose: Our aim was to measure changes in professional and work-related quality-of-life of rural surgical and obstetrical nurses in eight communities across BC and determine if the RSON initiative mitigated impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on nurses' quality of life.
Methods: This longitudinal evaluation was administered via online surveys in 2021 and 2023.

The immune system coordinates the response to cardiac injury and controls regenerative and fibrotic scar outcomes in the heart and subsequent chronic low-grade inflammation associated with heart failure. Adult mice and humans lack the ability to fully recover while adult zebrafish spontaneously regenerate after heart injury. Here we profile the inflammatory response to heart cryoinjury in zebrafish and coronary artery ligation in mouse using single cell transcriptomics.

The intrinsic timescales of single neurons are thought to be hierarchically organized across the cortex. This conclusion, however, is primarily based on analyses of neural responses from macaques. Whether hierarchical variation in timescales is a general brain organizing principle across mammals remains unclear.
