In the past 30 years, composite microvascular free tissue transfer has become a popular and highly successful option for the reconstruction of defects in the head and neck region. However, inherent shortcomings exist with free tissue transfer in that the imported tissue often fails to adequately replicate the characteristics of the native tissues. This can lead to difficulties when attempting reconstruction from a surgical and prosthetic standpoint. Endosseous implants are often required to adequately retain prostheses, and management of the peri-implant soft tissues represents a critical challenge for the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. This report describes a novel technique for controlling the implant-abutment-soft tissue interface and the advantages of this technique as it pertains to orofacial reconstruction.

Th2 inflammation and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) play crucial roles in the pathophysiology of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). This study aimed to investigate the hypothesis that MMP-12, produced by M2 macrophages, induces EMT in nasal epithelial cells, thereby contributing to airway inflammation and remodeling in CRSwNP. The expression levels of MMP-12 were measured by RT-PCR in CRS nasal mucosa and THP-1 cells.

Pulmonary mucus serves as a crucial protective barrier in the respiratory tract, defending against pathogens and contributing to effective clearance mechanisms. In Muco Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (MOPD), abnormal rheological properties lead to highly viscous mucus, fostering chronic infections and exacerbations. While prior research has linked mucus viscoelasticity to its mucin content, the variability in MOPD patients implies the involvement of other factors.

Approximately 90% of glioblastoma recurrences occur in the peritumoral brain zone (PBZ), while the spatial heterogeneity of the PBZ is not well studied. In this study, two PBZ tissues and one tumor tissue sample are obtained from each patient via preoperative imaging. We assess the microenvironment and the characteristics of infiltrating immune/tumor cells using various techniques.

The management of diabetic wounds (DW) is a significant challenge within the medical field. Effectively regulating the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) at the wound site and orchestrating the inflammatory response are effective strategies for DW treatment. In this study, a novel hydrogel was developed by cross-linking polyboronic acid-modified carboxymethyl chitosan with herbal active ingredient rosmarinic acid (RA), an active herbal ingredient, through dynamic boronic esters formation.

Objective: To evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS) and adhesive remnant index (ARI) scores of metal brackets to glazed lithium disilicate reinforced glass-ceramics and zirconia according to various surface treatment protocols.
Methods: A total of 240 lithium disilicate ceramic (LD) and 240 zirconia (Zr) blocks were randomly divided according to sandblasting, hydrofluoric acid (HF) etching, universal primer use, and the adhesive system applied. A maxillary canine metal bracket was bonded to each sample with resin cement (Transbond XT, TXT).
