Isolates of the snowshoe hare subtype of California encephalitis (CE) virus from Yukon mosquitoes during 1972 and 1973 were transmitted by bites of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes after 4 to 5 weeks of extrinsic incubation at 55 degrees F after intrathoracic injection, and the 1973 strain was transmitted after mosquitoes were fed virus and held for 3 to 4 weeks at 75 degrees F. Antigen of a 1971 isolate of CE virus (Marsh Lake 23) was detected in salivary glands of infected mosquitoes by the immunoperoxidase technique, using highly purified antiserum before and after conjugation with horseradish peroxidase, plus the use of orthotolidine as a substitute for benzidine. enveloped virions 45 nm in diameter were observed in thin sections of salivary glands of Culiseta inornata mosquitoes 59 days after intrathoracic injection with the 1971 isolate, afterincubation at 55 degrees F.

Thymomas have been associated with the generation of paraneoplastic autoantibodies to neurogenic epitopes, collapsin-response-mediator protein-5 receptor (CRMP-5) and alpha-amino-3-hydroxyl-5methyl-4isoxazolepropionic acid receptor (AMPAR), in patients with acute viral infection. We report a patient with thymoma and myasthenia gravis, with SARS-CoV-2 infection, who became comatose secondary to autoimmune encephalitis. Plasmapheresis, high-dose steroids, pyridostigmine, eculizumab, and rituximab did not restore neurologic function.

Single-cell transcriptomics applied to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for elucidating the pathophysiology of neurologic diseases has produced only a preliminary characterization of CSF immune cells. CSF derives from and borders central nervous system (CNS) tissue, allowing for comprehensive accounting of cell types along with their relative abundance and immunologic profiles relevant to CNS diseases. Using integration techniques applied to publicly available datasets in combination with our own studies, we generated a compendium with 139 subjects encompassing 135 CSF and 58 blood samples.

Objective: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has been occasionally applied as a treatment for super-refractory status epilepticus (SRSE). However, the effects of ECT on electrographic activity and related clinical outcomes are largely unknown. Here, we use quantitative approaches on electroencephalography (EEG) data to evaluate the neurophysiological influences of ECT and how they may relate to patient survival.

granulomatous amebic encephalitis is a rare disease that is associated with a high rate of mortality. Delays in diagnosis and treatment are common because of limited information on the organism in addition to its nonspecific clinical presentation. Prior reports have demonstrated that the encephalitis presents as multifocal lesions throughout the central nervous system with enhancement and edema.

The California serogroup (CSG) viruses are orthobunyaviruses endemic in North America and responsible for the second most common cause of mosquito-borne viral encephalitis in the United States. As the CSG viruses have been neglected and are poorly studied, there are no commercial diagnostic serological assays or reagents available for detection. Therefore, diagnostic laboratories have had to rely on the development of their own in-house serological assays.
