The present study reports the use of biomarkers analyzes in mangrove root crab Goniopsis cruentata tissues to assess the environmental quality of two tropical estuarine areas. Animals from Ceará River estuary presented inhibition of ChE and GST enzymatic activities and higher rates of DNA damage with respect to those sampled in a pristine environment. G. cruentata appears to represent a proper species to monitor the quality of tropical estuaries. Since Ceará River is a legally protected area, this survey highlight the needs to implement actions to control pollution loads and improve the protection of natural ecosystems and resources.

Compared to outdoor mango cultivation in the tropics, greenhouse cultivation in temperate regions is less reported due to its short history and small scale. Here, we evaluated for the first time the taste-focused quality of greenhouse-grown mangoes (Irwin) by GC-MS metabolic profiling and sensory evaluation for over three years (2021-2023). The relative standard deviation in sensory evaluation scores was approximately 15 % each year.

The existence of ochratoxin A (OTA) in agricultural products poses significant threats to human health and environment, underscoring the critical need for its prompt and precise quantification. A particle counting immunosensor for the highly sensitive detection of OTA was presented, employing SiO@CuO nanoparticles to facilitate click chemistry. The quantity of SiO@CuO nanoparticles, and consequently the Cu²⁺ concentration, can be directly altered through the immune response involving OTA.

The wavelength selection methods in this study were classified into four categories according to their principles, which are partial least squares (PLS) parameter-based methods, intelligent optimization algorithms (IOA)-based methods, model population analysis (MPA)-based methods and wavelength interval selection (WIS) methods.
