With the development of cancer immunotherapy, cancer vaccine has become a novel modality for cancer treatment, and the important role of adjuvant has been realized recently. Chitin, chitosan, and their derivatives have shown their advantages as adjuvants for cancer vaccine. In this paper, the adjuvant properties of chitin and chitosan were discussed, and some detailed information about glycated chitosan and chitosan nanoparticles was also presented to illustrate the trend for future development.

African swine fever (ASF) is an acute hemorrhagic disease in pigs caused by the African swine fever virus (ASFV), which has a high mortality rate and brought great damage to global pig farming industry. At present, there is no effective treatment or vaccine to combat ASFV infection, so early detection of ASFV has become particularly important. Therefore, the PDMS/chitosan/MPMs composite film was proposed to detect ASFV P72.

Chitin deacetylases (CDAs) are carbohydrate esterases associated with chitin metabolism and the conversion of chitin into chitosan. Studies have demonstrated that chitin deacetylation is essential for chitin organization and compactness and therefore influences the mechanical and permeability properties of chitinous structures, such as the peritrophic membrane (PM) and cuticle. In the present study, two genes ( and ) encoding CDA protein isoforms were identified and characterized in Chinese oak silkworm () larvae.

Article Synopsis
  • Innovative strategies are needed to combat fungal pathogens for sustainable crop protection, with traditional fungicides facing resistance issues due to their single-target action.
  • The study investigated the synergistic effects of chitosan (CS) and the fungicide azoxystrobin, finding a high synergy score that significantly improves antifungal efficacy.
  • Additionally, combining CS and azoxystrobin with RNA interference techniques enhanced fungal control, highlighting a promising eco-friendly approach and the need for further research on its molecular mechanisms.

Background: Paenibacillus polymyxa, is a Gram-positive, plant growth promoting bacterium, known for producing 98% optically pure 2,3-butanediol, an industrially valuable chemical for solvents, plasticizers and resins. Immobilization of Paenibacillus polymyxa has been proposed to improve the cell stability and efficiency of the fermentation process, reduce contamination and provide easy separation of butanediol in the culture broth as compared to conventional bioprocesses. This research aimed to explore the potential of Paenibacillus polymyxa with immobilization technique to produce 2,3-butanediol.

Tofacitinib (Tof), a commercially available pan-Janus kinases inhibitor, is approved for the treatment of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. However, its clinical application is limited due to dose-dependent systemic side effects. The present study aims to develop an efficient oral colon-targeted drug delivery systems using prebiotic pectin (Pcn) and chitosan (Csn) polysaccharides as a shell, with Tof loaded into a Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) core, and improving it with chondroitin sulfate (Chs), thus constructing Tof@BSA-Chs-CP nanoparticles (NPs).
