The tetrabutylammonium (TBA) salt of a mono-ruthenium(III)-substituted α-Keggin-type silicotungstate with a 4,4'-bipyridine (bipy) ligand, TBA5[α-SiW11O39Ru(III)(bipy)] (1), which is soluble in various organic solvents, was prepared by a cation exchange reaction of Cs5[α-SiW11O39Ru(III)(bipy)] with tetrabutylammonium bromide. Compound 1 was characterised using IR, (1)H-NMR, elemental analysis, single crystal X-ray analysis, X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) analysis (Ru L3-edge), electron spin resonance (ESR), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and UV-Vis. Single crystal X-ray analysis of 1 revealed that the Ru(III) unit was incorporated into the α-Keggin-type silicotungstate framework and coordinated by a bipy molecule through a Ru-N bond. CV indicated that the incorporated Ru(III)-bipy was reversibly oxidised to the Ru(IV)-bipy derivative and reduced to the Ru(II)-bipy derivative in organic solvents. The redox potential of Ru(IV/III)-bipy was found to be affected by organic solvents. Moreover, the Ru(V)-bipy derivative was observed in acetonitrile.

ConspectusLithium-ion batteries (LIBs) based on graphite anodes are a widely used state-of-the-art battery technology, but their energy density is approaching theoretical limits, prompting interest in lithium-metal batteries (LMBs) that can achieve higher energy density. In addition, the limited availability of lithium reserves raises supply concerns; therefore, research on postlithium metal batteries is underway. A major issue with these metal anodes, including lithium, is dendritic formation and insufficient reversibility, which leads to safety risks due to short circuits and the use of flammable electrolytes.

The high performance of two-dimensional (2D) channel membranes is generally achieved by preparing ultrathin or forming short channels with less tortuous transport through self-assembly of small flakes, demonstrating potential for highly efficient water desalination and purification, gas and ion separation, and organic solvent waste treatment. Here, we report the construction of vertical channels in graphene oxide (GO) membrane based on a substrate template with asymmetric pores. The membranes achieved water permeance of 2647 L m h bar while still maintaining an ultrahigh rejection rate of 99.

α-Terpineol and 1,8-cineole are two important compounds in essential oils. This study developed an efficient method to recover α-terpineol from model oil (MO) based on association extraction by in situ formations of deep eutectic solvent (DES) between α-terpineol and some quaternary ammonium salts (QASs) by hydrogen-bond (HB) interaction. Such interaction could be broken almost completely by the introduction of water, due to the stronger HB interaction between water and QASs, which could release α-terpineol by liquid-liquid separation and save the organic solvents consumption.

From solubility to efficiency: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) regeneration from anion exchange resins.

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA 19122, USA. Electronic address:

This study investigated the regenerability of anion exchange resins for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), focusing on the interaction between regenerant composition and resin characteristics. The influence of salt type and concentration on PFAS solubility revealed a general decline in perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS) solubility with increased salt concentrations, most strongly with KCl followed by NaCl and NHCl. Mixed solubility results were observed for perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS).

Stability of Ternary Drug-Drug-Drug Coamorphous Systems Obtained Through Mechanochemistry.

Pharmaceutics

January 2025

Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Trieste, Piazzale Europa 1, 34127 Trieste, Italy.

This study investigates the preparation of coamorphous systems composed entirely of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), namely praziquantel, niclosamide, and mebendazole. The objective was to formulate and characterize binary and ternary coamorphous systems to evaluate their structural, thermal, and stability properties. Ten different mixtures (binary and ternary) were designed through a mixture design approach and prepared using a sustainable, one-step neat grinding process in a lab-scale vibrational mill.
