Manufacturers have developed prototype cigarettes yielding reduced levels of some tobacco smoke toxicants, when tested using laboratory machine smoking under standardised conditions. For the scientific assessment of modified risk tobacco products, tests that offer objective, reproducible data, which can be obtained in a much shorter time than the requirements of conventional epidemiology are needed. In this review, we consider whether biomarkers of biological effect related to oxidative stress can be used in this role. Based on published data, urinary 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2-deoxyguanosine, thymidine glycol, F2-isoprostanes, serum dehydroascorbic acid to ascorbic acid ratio and carotenoid concentrations show promise, while 4-hydroxynonenal requires further qualification.

Two-dimensional (2D) hybrid materials, particularly those based on boron nitride (BN) and graphene oxide (GO), have attracted significant attention for energy applications owing to their distinct structural and electronic properties. BN/GO composites uniquely combine the mechanical strength, thermal stability and electrical insulation of BN with the high conductivity and flexibility of GO, creating advanced materials ideal for the fabrication of batteries, supercapacitors and fuel cells. These hybrids offer synergistic effects, enhanced charge transport, increased surface area, and improved chemical stability, making them promising candidates for high-performance energy systems.

Background: Whether medium-term increased water intake alone, or in combination with co-adjuvant nonexercise interventions aimed to expand blood volume (BV), improve the human cardiovascular phenotype and cardiorespiratory fitness remains unexplored.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the medium-term impact of increased (+40%) fluid (water) intake (IFI) or IFI plus head-up sleep (IFI + HUS) on BV and the cardiovascular phenotype in healthy individuals.
Methods: Healthy adults (n = 35, age 42 ± 18 years, 51% female) matched by sex, age, body composition, physical activity, and cardiorespiratory fitness were randomly allocated to IFI or IFI + HUS for 3 months.

Objective: This study examines the association between family economic decision-making power and survival outcomes among older adults.
Methods: Data were drawn from the China Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) from 2005 to 2018. Family economic decision-making power was assessed based on participants' self-reported influence over household financial matters, categorized as: "making decisions on almost all household expenditures", "deciding on non-essential spending", "only deciding on personal expenditures", and "having no decision-making power over household spending".

Exposure-response (ER) analyses are routinely performed as part of model-informed drug development to evaluate the risk-to-benefit ratio for dose selection, justification, and confirmation. For logistic regression analyses with binary endpoints, several exposure metrics are investigated, based on pharmacological plausibility, including time-averaged concentration to event (C). C is informative because it accounts for dose interruptions, modifications, and reductions and is therefore often compared against ER relationships identified using steady-state exposures.

In recent years, the fabrication of hydrazine sensors has received extensive attention because of the toxicity of hydrazine to the environment and human beings. It is thus important to design and develop efficient electrode modifiers for the construction of hydrazine electrochemical sensors. Herein, we reported the benign synthesis of a silver (Ag)-doped zinc-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8).
