We describe the electrochemical detection of single nanoparticle (NP) attachment on a nanoelectrode by the increase in the active electrode area. The attachment of gold NP-decorated single wall carbon nanotubes (Au-SWCNTs) was observed by their current-time transients for ferrocenemethanol (FcMeOH) oxidation. Since the attached Au-SWCNT increases the electroactive area available for FcMeOH oxidation, the current increases after attachment of the particle. The "staircase" shape of the current response establishes that the particles do not become deactivated for the outer-sphere electron transfer reaction after attachment. Au-SWCNTs migrate to and are held at the nanoelectrode by an electric field. However, SWCNTs that are not decorated with a gold NP produce only a sharp transient ("blip") response.

is a Gram-positive bacterium that is responsible for severe nosocomial infections. The rise of multidrug-resistant strains, which can pose significant health threats, prompts the development of new treatment interventions, and much attention has been directed at the development of prophylactic and therapeutic vaccination strategies. Capsular polysaccharides (CPs) are key protective elements of the cell wall and have been proposed as promising candidate antigens.

Cell-Type Specific miRNA Regulatory Network Responses to ABA Stress Revealed by Time Series Transcriptional Atlases in Arabidopsis.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

School of Advanced Agriculture Sciences and School of Life Sciences, State Key Laboratory of Protein and Plant Gene Research, Peking University, Beijing, 100871, China.

In plants, microRNAs (miRNAs) participate in complex gene regulatory networks together with the transcription factors (TFs) in response to biotic and abiotic stresses. To date, analyses of miRNAs-induced transcriptome remodeling are at the whole plant or tissue levels. Here, Arabidopsis's ABA-induced single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) is performed at different stages of time points-early, middle, and late.

Separation of Highly Pure Semiconducting Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes in Alkane Solvents via Double Liquid-Phase Extraction.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

This study delves into the distinctive selective property exhibited by a non-conjugated cholesterol-based polymer, poly(CEM--EHA), in sorting semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWCNTs) within isooctane. Comprised of 11 repeating units of cholesteryloxycarbonyl-2-hydroxy methacrylate (CEM) and 7 repeating units of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (EHA), this non-conjugated polymer demonstrates robust supramolecular interactions across the sp surface structure of carbon nanotubes and graphene. When coupled with the Double Liquid-Phase Extraction (DLPE) technology, the polymer effectively segregates s-SWCNTs into the isooctane phase (nonpolar) while excluding metallic SWCNTs (m-SWCNTs) in the water phase (polar).

In September 2023, the UK Health Security Agency's (UKHSA) South West Health Protection Team received notification of patients with perichondritis. All five cases had attended the same cosmetic piercing studio and a multi-disciplinary outbreak control investigation was subsequently initiated. An additional five cases attending the same studio were found.

Cell-laden, scaffold-based tissue engineering methods have been successfully utilized for the treatment of bone fractures. In such methods, the rate of scaffold biodegradation, transport of nutrients, and removal of cell metabolic wastes are critical fluid-dynamics factors, affecting tissue regeneration. Therefore, there is a critical need to identify the underlying material transport mechanisms associated with stem cell-driven, scaffold-based bone tissue regeneration.
