Background: The reliability and security of surgical knots play a critical role in wound closure and healing. A surgeon's knot, created by a modification of the square knot in which an extra 'twist' is added to the initial throw, is often used to increase friction and provide stability of the tissue as the knot is completed.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to quantify the security of sutures, as influenced by varying numbers of initial twists in a surgeon's knot.

To fulfill virus replication and persistent infection in hosts, viruses have to find ways to compromise innate immunity, including timely impedance on antiviral RNases and inflammatory responses. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is a major swine pathogen causing immune suppression. MALT1 is a central immune regulator in both innate and adaptive immunity.

Current oral squamous cell carcinoma chemotherapies demonstrate off-target toxicity, which could be reduced by local delivery. Curcumin acts via many cellular targets to give anti-cancer properties; however the bioavailability is hindered by its physicochemical characteristics. The incorporation of curcumin into emulgel systems could be a promising approach for its solubilization and delivery.

Porcine kobuviruses are widely distributed in swine, but the clinical significance of these viruses remains unclear, since they have been associated with both diarrheic and healthy pigs. In addition, there is a paucity of data on Kobuvirus prevalence in Canadian pig herds. In this study, a total of 181 diarrheic and healthy piglets were monitored and sampled on four occasions, intended to represent the different stages of production.
