Trypanosome protozoan parasites are the causative agents of devastating diseases. Trypanosome telomeres grow in an uncontrolled manner and the variant surface glycoprotein (VSG) genes are located in subtelomeric domains. The gene encoding telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) was identified and in this study, we describe the Trypanosoma brucei telomerase RNA (TER). TER RNA is bound by the core proteins of the C/D small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) family and associates with the methyltransferase-associated protein (MTAP), whose homologue binds to mammalian TER. Silencing of TbTER resulted in telomere shortening. This is the first report of a TER that binds the C/D snoRNA core proteins.

Esketamine, a newly developed antidepressant, is the subject of this research which seeks to explore its impact on depressive symptoms in neuropathic pain mice and the potential molecular mechanisms involved. Through transcriptome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis combined with in vivo studies, it was identified that esketamine markedly boosts the levels of the m6A methyltransferase METTL3 and the AMPA receptor GluA1 subunit. Esketamine activates METTL3, allowing it to bind with GluA1 mRNA, promoting m6A modification, thereby enhancing GluA1 expression at synapses.

Emerging evidence shows that lipid metabolic reprogramming plays a vital role in tumor metastasis. The effect and mechanism of fatty acids and lipid droplets (LDs), the core products of lipid metabolism, on the metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), need further exploration. In this study, the influence of palmitic acid (PA) and oleic acid (OA) on the migration and invasion ability of OSCC cells was determined by in vitro experiments.

Minimal study focused on the association between mixed pollutants in atmospheric particulate matter (PM) and their reproductive health risks. Utilizing a novel quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) integrated machine learning algorithms, we evaluated the mixed reproductive health risks associated with phthalates (PAEs) and organophosphates (OPEs) exposure by assessing the affinities of these compounds binding to estrogen receptors (ER) and androgen receptors (AR). The mixed toxicity equivalent factor (TEF) and mixed toxicity equivalent quantity (TEQ) by the QSAR model were all smaller than the sum TEF and TEQ of individual PAEs and OPEs, which may be due to the antagonistic effect of PAEs and OPEs monomers on reproductive toxicity.

Premature Ovarian Insufficiency refers to the premature decline in ovarian function before the age of 40, resulting in menstrual irregularities or complete cessation of menstruation, and affecting fertility. Widely used bisphenol compounds may have potential health effects, including premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). This study employs computational biology and bioinformatics to investigate the effects of bisphenols (BPs) on POI.
