Risk factors associated with higher WHO grade in meningiomas: a multicentric study of 552 skull base meningiomas.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Neurosurgery and Neurooncology, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and Military University Hospital, U Vojenske nemocnice 1200, Prague, 169 02, Czech Republic.

The histological grade is crucial for therapeutic management, and its reliable preoperative detection can significantly influence treatment approach. Lacking established risk factors, this study identifies preoperative predictors of high-grade skull base meningiomas and discusses the implications of non-invasive detection. A multicentric study was conducted on 552 patients with skull base meningiomas who underwent primary surgical resection between 2014 and 2019.

Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is marked by mineral imbalances, often leading to nephrolithiasis and osteoporosis. While imaging remains the cornerstone for stone detection, there is growing interest in biochemical markers that could enhance diagnostic accuracy. This study investigates the calcium-to-magnesium (Ca/Mg) ratio as a novel biomarker for nephrolithiasis, comparing its utility to traditional 24-h urinary calcium excretion and exploring its broader clinical implications.

Background: The prone position is commonly used in surgical procedures and is known to cause significant hemodynamic changes, particularly a reduction in cardiac output. This study aimed to explore the relationship between intra-abdominal pressure (IAP), airway pressure, and cardiac output during spine surgeries under general anesthesia.

Methods: Twenty-five patients undergoing elective spine surgery in the prone position were enrolled in this prospective observational study.

Background: Noninvasive perinatal testing is a new method of screening for aneuploidy called cell-free DNA (cfDNA). Fetal fraction (FF) plays a crucial role in assessing the reliability of aneuploidy detection through noninvasive perinatal testing.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the association between the amount of FF in cfDNA testing and adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Leveraging Epigenetic Alterations in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma for Clinical Applications.

Semin Cancer Biol

January 2025

Biomedical Research Center, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Dubravska Cesta 9, 84505 Bratislava, Slovakia. Electronic address:

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive malignancy characterized by late detection and poor prognosis. Recent research highlights the pivotal role of epigenetic alter- ations in driving PDAC development and progression. These changes, in conjunction with genetic mutations, contribute to the intricate molecular landscape of the disease.
