A methodology leading to facile self-assembly of crystalline aromatic arrays in dilute aqueous solutions would enable efficient fabrication and processing of organic photonic and electronic materials in water. In particular, soluble 2D crystalline nanosheets may mimic the properties of photoactive thin films and self-assembled monolayers, covering large areas with ordered nanometer-thick material. We designed such solution-phase arrays using hierarchical self-assembly of amphiphilic perylene diimides in aqueous media. The assemblies were characterized by cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM), revealing crystalline order and 2D morphology (confirmed by AFM studies). The order and morphology are preserved upon drying as evidenced by TEM and AFM. The 2D crystalline-like structures exhibit broadening and red-shifted absorption bands in UV-vis spectra, typical for PDI crystals and liquid crystals. Photophysical studies including femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy reveal that two of the assemblies are superior light-harvesters due to excellent solar spectrum coverage and fast exciton transfer, in one case showing exciton diffusion comparable to solid-state crystalline systems based on perylene tetracarboxylic dianhidride (PTCDA).

The transformation of bulk transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) particles into ultrathin nanosheets with both an acceptable yield and preserved crystalline integrity presents a substantial challenge in electrochemical exfoliation. This challenge arises from the continuous potential stress that the materials experience in traditional exfoliation setups. Herein, we propose a new fluidized electrochemical exfoliation (FEE) method to efficiently transform TMD powders into high-quality, few-layered TMD nanosheets in the aqueous phase.

The present work reports a clear and improved hydrothermal methodology for the synthesis of MoSe nanoflowers (MNFs) at 210 °C. To observe the effect of temperature on the fascinating properties, the process temperature was modified by ±10 °C. The as-prepared MNFs were found to consist of 2D nanosheets, which assembled into a 3D flower-like hierarchical morphology van der Waals forces.

Realizing reliable online detection of characteristic gases (H, CH, CO, and CO) in lithium-ion batteries is crucial to maintain the safe and stable operation of power equipment and new energy storage power plants. In this study, transition metal Pt ( = 1, 3, and 4) clusters are attached to MoSe nanosheets for the first time based on density functional theory using the perfect crystalline facet modification method, and the adsorption characteristics and electronic behaviors of H, CH, CO, and CO are investigated and enhanced. The results show that Pt ( = 1, 3, and 4) is reliably chemically connected to the substrate without any significant deformation of the geometry.

Conductive hydrogel has drawn great concern in wearable sensors, human-machine interfaces, artificial intelligence (AI), health monitoring, et al. But it still remains challenge to develop hydrogel through facile and sustainable methods. In this work, a conductive, flexible, bendable and self-healing hydrogel (PBCM) composed of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), borax, cellulose microfibers (CMFs) and MXene nanosheets was fabricated by a simple and efficient strategy.

The direct incorporation of borondipyrromethene (BODIPY) subunits into the structural backbone of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) gives facile access to porous photosensitizers but is still a challenging task. Here, we introduce β-ketoenamine-linked BDP-TFP-COF, which crystallizes in AA-stacking mode with hcb topology. A comprehensive characterization reveals high crystallinity and enhanced stability in a variety of solvents, excellent mesoporosity (SA=1042 m g), broad light absorption in the visible region, and red emission upon the exfoliation of few-layer COF nanosheets.
