Four (1-4) previously unknown lupane-type triterpenoidal saponins were isolated from the roots of Pulsatilla chinensis, along with six triterpene saponins (5-10). The structures of saponins 1-4 were determined as 23-hydroxy-3β-[(O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl)]lup-20(29)-en-28-oic-acid 28-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester (1), 23-hydroxy-3β-[(O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 4)]-α-L-arabinopyranosyl)]lup-20(29)-en-28-oic-acid 28-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester (2), 3β-[(O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl)]lup-20(29)-en-28-oic-acid 28-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester (3), and 3β-[(O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl)]lup-20(29)-en-28-oic-acid 28-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 6)-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester (4), on the basis of hydrolysis and spectral evidence, including 1D- and 2D-NMR and HR-ESI-MS analyses. These pure isolates (1-10) were tested for their anticomplement activity, using an in vitro assay of the complement system of the classical pathway.

Cellular Senescence Genes as Cutting-Edge Signatures for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Diagnosis: Potential for Innovative Therapeutic Interventions.

J Cell Mol Med

State Key Laboratory of Frigid Zone Cardiovascular Diseases, Cardiovascular Research Institute and Department of Cardiology, General Hospital of Northern Theater Command, Shenyang, China.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is the most prevalent dilated arterial aneurysm that poses a significant threat to older adults, but the molecular mechanisms linking senescence to AAA progression remain poorly understood. This study aims to identify cellular senescence-related genes (SRGs) implicated in AAA development and assess their potential as therapeutic targets. Four hundred and twenty-nine differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified from the GSE57691 training set, and 867 SRGs were obtained.

Genome-wide identification and expression analysis of orphan genes in twelve (sub)species.

Unlabelled: Orphan genes (OGs), also known as lineage-specific genes, are species-specific genes that play a crucial role in species-specific adaptations to various stresses. Although OGs have been identified in several plant species, there is no information on OGs in banana genomes. This study aimed to systematically identify OGs in twelve banana (sub)species using comparative genomics.

Gender and sex differences in colorectal cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment.

Clin Transl Oncol

January 2025

Department of Medical Oncology, University Hospital of Navarra, Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de Navarra, IdISNA, Navarra, Spain.

Males have a higher incidence and mortality rate from colorectal cancer (CRC) compared with females. This review examines the reasons for these differences, including risk factors, screening participation, interpretation of screening tests, presentation and tumour types, pathophysiology (particularly the impact of sex hormones on tumour-related gene expression, microsatellite instability, micro-RNA expression, and the tumour microenvironment), and the efficacy and toxicity of treatment. Sex differences in hormones and body composition are responsible for some of the sexual dimorphism in CRC incidence and outcomes, particularly the pathophysiology, CRC presentation, the pharmacokinetics of cytotoxic therapies, and the impact of treatment on outcomes.

Myelin loss induces neural dysfunction and contributes to the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases, injury conditions, and aging. Because remyelination is often incomplete, better understanding endogenous remyelination and developing remyelination therapies that restore neural function are clinical imperatives. Here, we use in vivo two-photon microscopy and electrophysiology to study the dynamics of endogenous and therapeutic-induced cortical remyelination and functional recovery after cuprizone-mediated demyelination in mice.

Introduction And Importance: Severe aortic stenosis (AS) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) significantly increase perioperative morbidity and mortality. This case report discusses the challenges of managing a 75-year-old male patient with severe AS and advanced COPD undergoing elective abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair.

Case Presentation: The patient presented with a 6.
