Background: Contemporary guidelines advocate for initial debridement and single-stage definitive fixation with immediate soft tissue reconstruction for open fractures. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of single-stage stabilization and immediate definitive soft tissue coverage in open ankle fractures compared to closed fractures.
Methods: We compared all isolated open ankle fractures (OF) treated between January 2017 and June 2019 to a control group of operatively managed closed ankle fractures (CF).

As a class of particularly representative endocrine-disrupting chemicals, the accumulation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances potentially leads to adverse health effects, including hormonal disruptions, developmental issues, and cancer. Purpose: To quantitatively explore preretinal abnormal tissue (PAT) in macula-on rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) before and after surgery.
Methods: In this case-series study, PAT was detected by en-face optical coherence tomography images with custom slabs in eyes that underwent pars plana vitrectomy and SF6 for macula-on RRD.Main outcome measures were PAT area at baseline, 3-month and 6-month follow-up, and its relative change.

Background: Despite breastfeeding being widely accepted as the optimal feeding method for infants many women do not meet their breastfeeding goals or continue to breastfeed as long as recommended. Continuation of exclusive breastfeeding is multifactorial, with midwifery support during the postnatal period considered to be an important component. However, little is known about how women receive this support from midwives across varying models of care.
